Chapter 14 I Won’t Spend Another Cent of Yours
Katic immediately became interested after hearing this.
They hid in the back, watching as Melvin led his team to fight the monsters.

After all, the big boss was tough to defeat and required teamwork. By the time they were close to succeeding, most of the team members were weak.
Usually, no one would dare to steal the boss from well–known teams like this.
But there were exceptions.
Katie had previously studied the strateg
for this boss, so she knew the perfect moment to strike.
She and Ryan worked seamlessly together, landing the final blow at the last moment.
The boss was successfully stolen from Melvin’s team by Katie and Ryan..
The world channel immediately broadcasted, “Congratulations to Sweet Lemon for defeating the Peach Grove Boss!”
When Melvin saw the result, he was furious and shouted into his headset, “What the hell are you. all doing? How could you let someone steal the boss?”
Sally added fuel to the fire, “Those two look like new accounts. Don’t they know who we are? How dare they steal our boss?”
Melvin, completely enraged, shouted, “Kill them!”
But soon, Melvin’s screen turned black and white, followed by the rest of his team collapsing to the ground, unmoving.
Melvin stared at the name Sweet Lemon, feeling like the way this player played was oddly familiar.
It reminded him of Katie!
Could it be that she deliberately created a new account to steal his boss?
Wait, no, Katie shouldn’t be that skilled yet.
Meanwhile, Katie and Ryan had successfully stolen the boss and collected the loot.
But nothing could compare to the joy of torturing Melvin and Sally earlier!
The two played the game for a while before the delivery arrived.
Ryan paused. “Let’s eat first.”

received earlier that day.
She gave him a glance. “Why did you buy a cake?”

“Don’t you girls like this kind of thing? Consider it a reward for your good scores. You didn’t embarrass me!”
Katie suddenly felt a wave of warmth and was touched.
Ryan’s expression grew a little awkward, and he added in a deliberately indifferent tone, “Anyway, it came with the takeout.”
Katie picked up the small cake, realizing it was just for her.
She took a bite, lowered her eyes, and couldn’t seem to calm the emotions stirring inside her.
Ryan saw her lower her head and stay silent.
He cleared his throat and asked, “Is the cake that bad?”
It shouldn’t be. Didn’t they say this one was the most popular?
Katie nodded. “It’s really good. It’s been so long since someone bought a cake for me.”
Ever since her parents passed away, she hadn’t celebrated her birthday.
Her brothers never remembered that she liked this particular cake, so there was never any for her.
Ryan looked at her quietly. “You don’t have cake on your birthday?”
Katie was silent for a moment before speaking softly. “My parents died in a car accident on my birthday, so since then, I’ve never celebrated it.”
That day became the anniversary of their passing.
Every year, the atmosphere at home was always heavy.
she never felt she had the right to ask for a celebration..
Ryan felt a sharp pang in his chest, as if something had stabbed at his heart, and he found himself struggling to breathe.
He couldn’t help but turn his head, his lips pressed tightly together, his expression a mix of anger and guilt.
His hands instinctively clenched, veins rising along the backs of his hands.
Katie sensed the change in atmosphere and looked up, pretending not to care. “Honestly, I don’t mind not celebrating my birthday. After all. I haven’t been in the mood for it

What right did she have to celebrate her birthday?

Ryan fought to control the emotions stirring inside him as he looked at her delicate, quiet face. So obedient, like a small animal.
She stood there silently, hardly noticeable, as if she barely existed.
Her maturity and sensible demeanor left him feeling angry and helpless.
His throat tightened, and his voice came out a bit rough. “It’s getting late. You should head back. Kids shouldn’t be out alone like this.”
“I understand. Can I still come here to find you?”
Katie looked at him, her eyes filled with uncertainty.
Ryan’s gaze darkened, deep as ink. “You trust me that much? Aren’t you afraid I’ll deceive you?”
“Because I don’t have anything for you to deceive.”
Katie met his gaze without hesitation. “You’re the only friend I have right now.”
Ryan’s gaze faltered for a moment. A friend?
He smiled slightly, then put on a serious expression. “Don’t trust people so easily, especially men.”
“I got it, I’m leaving.”
Katie waved as she left the infirmary, her backpack slung over her shoulder.
After she left, Ryan stayed sitting, his gaze fixed on the cake on the table. It brought back memories of the accident, and the shattered cake at the scène.
His head began to suddenly ache faintly,
Since the accident, he hadn’t touched cake again.
After some time, he received a call. “Mr. Ryan, Ms. Maddison has safely arrived home.”
Ryan ended the call, his silhouette stretching long in the setting sun.
When Katie got back to the Maddison Residence, she found Eddie and the others sitting on the couch, obviously waiting for her.
She looked at them with a blank expression. I’m home.”
Eddie looked up, seeing his distant, stubborn sister, unsure of how to react.

But to his surprise, her results were real.

Yet, despite her generally average performance over the years, how did she suddenly make such a drastic improvement?
Eddie felt that Katie had changed a lot. It wasn’t just her acting out; she had genuinely changed.
He was both happy and sad.
The little sister who used to revolve around him seemed to be gone.
She was getting good grades, and it was clear she was really putting in the effort, not just rebelling.
Eddie began to reflect on his own behavior, realizing he had been seeing Katie through biased eyes. And with Melvin’s actions at school, he felt he had ignored Katie’s feelings.
Is that why she has changed so much?
Eddie’s tone was complicated. “You’re coming back this late. Did you go to the study room outside again?”
“Yeah.”
Eddie sighed lightly. “Isn’t the environment at home better than the study rooms outside? The outside environment is complicated, with all kinds of people. Don’t do your homework in those study rooms anymore. It’s not safe.”
Katic pursed her lips. It was the same as always–he made decisions for her without asking her.
Eddie continued, “Sally’s grades have dropped, I’ve hired a tutor to help her. You should join too. If Sally doesn’t understand something, you can help her out. After all, you’re in the same class. When she’s absent, you can help her take notes on the important points.”
Katie’s expression was full of mockery.
So it’s all for Sally, that’s why he wants her to do her homework at home.
Katie straightened her back. “I don’t want to.”
“Katie, I know Melvin made a mistake at school today, and you’ve proven your abilities. But we’re still a family. Sally’s grades dropped because of the preparation for the team competition. You’re not participating in the competition, so you should put in some effort to help Sally improve her grades. After all, you have the experience.”
Katie just found it ridiculous. “I refuse!”
She only spoke two words. She didn’t even think it was worth explaining.
Melvin stormed out, pointing a finger at her and shouting, “Katie, do you have any conscience?

Katie only felt ironic.

In her past life, she had worked tirelessly for the Maddisons, training hard in gaming skills to help the team win the championship.
But what did she get in the end?
Sally shed a few tears, and just like that, she became the champion.
In this life, she wasn’t going to make such a foolish mistake.
She responded calmly, “Fine. Starting today, I’ll move out and won’t spend another cent of yours.”
The break from them started now.
