Chapter 14 Kindness
Lisa frowned and closed the door before saying, “Didn’t I tell you not to call me?“.
Riley replied, “I sent you messages, but you didn’t respond. I had no choice”
Lisa asked, “What do you want?”

“You’re really not in a hurry at all, huh?” Riley said. “I haven’t even given you your payment yet. Give me your bank account number, or 1 can add your contact and transfer it to you via Paypal.
“No” Lisa said. “I want cash.”
Riley was momentarily speechless. “Cash? This is a legitimate deal–why are you making it seem like some shady
transaction?”
“I just want cash,” Lisa insisted. “Tomorrow at three in the afternoon, have someone leave it by the fountain in Greencrest Park
Riley raised an eyebrow. “You aren’t afraid I’ll go back on my word, are you? But still, are you really only asking for 10,000 dollars for a song like that?”
Even if Lisa was a newcomer who couldn’t set a high price, the quality of the song was excellent. People were willing to pay 50,000 or even 100,000 for it When Riley first heard her price, he thought she was joking
“Yeah,” Lisa said simply. T’m hanging up now. This isn’t my number, so don’t call it again.”
With that, she ended the call and immediately blocked Riley’s contact. Then, she handed the phone back to Peter.
Peter hesitated before saying. “Ms. Lisa, there’s something I want to tell you. Please don’t get mad”
Lisa smiled, “Go ahead.”
Peter reached into his pocket and pulled out a white phone. It looked slightly old but clearly well cared for. Its owner must have cherished it.
“This was my daughter’s phone when she was in high school, Peter explained. “It’s been a few years, but it still works fine. She takes good care of her things, so there aren’t any major scratches or denis.
He placed the phone into Lisa’s hands and added, “You’re at an age where having a phone would make things easier at school.
Take this.”
Lisa was stunned and quickly shook her head. “Thank you, but I can’t accept this!”
“She already has a new phone, and I had asked for her permission.” Peter said. “Just take it—it’s not worth much anyway.”
Lisa wanted to refuse again, but Peter waved a hand dismissively. “I still have work to do. See you around.”
Lisa stared at the phone as her lips pressed together tightly.
This was the only act of kindness she had ever received in this household, and it came from someone she had barely met.
She took a deep breath and carefully held the phone, treasuring it. Turning to head back to her room, she suddenly found herself face–to–face with Julius.
Julius had clearly just returned from some banquet as he still carried the scent of alcohol. Lisa barely glanced at him before quickly looking away and trying to hurry past, but his voice stopped her. “Hold it right there.”
He narrowed his eyes. “Why are you sneaking around? Let me see what’s in your hand.”
Lisa’s breathing quickened slightly, but she forced herself to stay calm. “It’s just a phone-”
Before she could finish, Julius strode over and snatched it from her hands, inspecting it. “I don’t remember you owning this phone.”

Lisa’s expression darkened. She stood on tiptoe, trying to take it back, but Julius lifted it higher while smirking. “Who did you steal it from Tiffany’s? No, she wouldn’t use some off–brand phone like this.”
“I didn’t steal it,” Lisa said. “Give it back.”
“If you didn’t steal it, then where did it come from?” Julius sneered. “You’ve always had sticky fingers. If you don’t tell me, I’ll smash it right now,”
He was already in a foul mood from the banquet because he was forced to watch Riley flaunt his success while enduring the mockery of others. Yet, he couldn’t do anything about it.
Now that Lisa was here, she made for the perfect scapegoat. There was no way he was letting this go.
“It’s not mine!” Lisa’s pupils contracted. “You can’t smash it!”
“Then tell me who gave it to you. Julius was losing patience. “I don’t have all day”
Lisa had no choice but to answer. “It was from the new gardener. He saw my phone was broken and gave me this one.
Julius’s expression turned dark in an instant.
“It’s ridiculous for a young lady of the Olsens to accept a gift from a gardener…” He grabbed Lisa’s chin, forcing her to look up. “What’s your relationship with him? Why would he give you a phone?”
“There’s nothing between us, Lisa said, disgusted by the implication in his tone. The way he twisted things was revolting. It said a lot about the kind of person he was
“You expect me to believe that he just gave you a phone out of kindness?” Julius chuckled coldly. “I heard you tried to seduce William a few days ago but failed. Are you so desperate that you’ll go after a gardener? Lisa, just how cheap are you? You’d trade yourself away for a-”
“Shut up!” Lisa snapped. “It’s nothing like what you’re thinking!”
Their shouting quickly drew others over. Tiffany rushed in. “Why are you two arguing again? Julius, you reek of alcohol–yout must be drunk. Go to bed already”
“I’m not drunk,” Julius said.
He waved the phone in his hand. “See this? Lisa sold herself for it.”
Lisa’s face turned ashen.
“A phone?” Tiffany blinked, then quickly said, “Julius, you misunderstood. I gave Lisa that phone.”
Julius frowned. “You did?”
“Bur Lisa said the gardener gave it to her.”
Tiffany explained, “I was afraid Lisa wouldn’t accept it, so I asked the gardener to give it to her. You misunderstood, Julius”
Julius was suspicious. He felt like Tiffany was lying just to cover for Lisa. He also didn’t want to disrespect Tiffany, so he shoved the phone into her hands. “If it’s yours, then keep it. Lisa already has a phone–why bother giving her another?”
“Got it, Julius, Tiffany said helplessly. “Go get some rest.”
Julius shot Lisa a glance before finally staggering away.
Tm sorry, Lisa, Tiffany said apologetically. “Julius drank too much–don’t take it personally. He wasn’t trying to pick a fight with you on purpose.”
Lisa held out her hand. “Give me the phone”
“Oh, right. Tiffany quickly handed it back, but in her “rush“, it slipped from her fingers. The phone hit the ground with a

Thuck.
It was already an old device and it shattered completely after that fall. Pieces of it scattered across the floor.
“Oh no, I’m so sorry!” Tillany panicked and bent down to pick up the fragments, but in her flustered attempts, she only made
it worse.
Even if she took it to a repair shop, it was unlikely to ever work again.
