Chapter 35 Don’t Hit Lisa Again
Chapter 35 Don’t Hit Lisa Again
After Lisa left, Mario came down the stairs. Bernard glanced at him and said, “Looks like she doesn’t care much about her foster mother.”
Mario wasn’t convinced, but he didn’t argue. Instead, he asked, “So what about the Hales? What’s the plan?”
“There’s no need to rush,” Bernard said calmly. “She’s always responded better when we go easy on her. If we talk things out, shell come around
He let out a weary sigh. “Kids these days–they’re all about themselves. They don’t realize that if the family crumbles, it affects them too. She’s still too immature to see that.”
Mario didn’t respond.
“Oh, and another thing,” Bernard added. “Tell your mother not to hit or yell at Lisa again. She carried her for nine months- there’s no reason for them to act like enemies.”
Mario nodded.
Back in her room, Lisa still couldn’t calm down.
She pulled out the calendar hidden under her pillow and scratched a big X through today’s date. Seeing her goal getting doser finally brought her some peace.
Just a little more time. Once she graduated and had her diploma, she’d go back, find her mother, and take her far away- somewhere quiet, where no one knew them. She’d get a job, earn a living, and live happily with her mother.
The Olsens’s wealth or status wouldn’t matter anymore. She’d leave it all behind. In her world, the only person who mattered was her mother.
The next morning, Lisa headed to a public phone booth and made a call.
She spoke to a neighbor from the village, asking if anyone strange had come by asking about her mother. The neighbor said no, and Lisa finally let out a breath of relief.
She didn’t dare to contact her mother directly–she didn’t want Bernard to know where her weakness lay.
As long as she kept acting indifferent, Bernard probably wouldn’t hurt her mother.
“Lisa” Tiffany called from upstairs, leaning over the railing with a grin. “Didn’t you say you were going out? Why aren’t you dressed yet?
Tm just wearing this, Lisa replied flatly.
“That won’t do Like a cheerful little bird, Tiffany bounced down the stairs and grabbed her hand. “I’ve prepared everything for you. Come on, wear this.”
A servant came forward holding a dress, and Lisa’s eyes widened in surprise.
It was a designer piece–brand new and straight off the runway.
Why was Tiffany being so generous?
“So, what do you think? Tiffany asked with a grin. “Julius picked it up for me at a fashion show. I haven’t had the chance to wear it until now?
Lisa remembered the blanket incident and said coldly. “If Julius gave it to you, I don’t want it.”
“No worries–1 already talked to Julius, and he’s totally okay with it, Tiffany said. “There’ll be plenty of girls around your age at the event. If you show up wearing that, though, they might think less of you.”

Chapter 35 Don’t Hit Lisa Again
Lisa hesitated, then ran her hand along the fabric. It was clean, and smooth–nothing seemed wrong with it. So she went and changed.
It’s true what they say–clothes really do change a person. Lisa usually looked plain in her old outfits, but now, wearing this stunning dress, she looked like a completely different person. Even Oscar seemed stunned when he saw her.
That looks amazing on you,” Tiffany said with a bright smile. “Come on, let’s go.”
They hopped into the car and headed to the hotel.
The birthday party was for one of Tiffany’s longtime classmates. They had gone to the same school since elementary and stayed friends all the way through college. The girl stood by the entrance, waiting for Tiffany, and the two greeted each other cheerfully, holding hands. She then glanced at Lisa and raised an eyebrow. “Is this your sister?”
“Yep,” Tiffany replied. “I almost forgot to introduce you. Lisa, this is Shania Burton.”
Then she turned back. “Shania, this is my sister, Lisa.”
Shania gave Lisa a quick once–over. Her expression flickered, but she said nothing. “Tiffany, you two go ahead. Everyone’s inside waiting.”
“Okay!” Tiffany took Lisa’s hand. “Let’s go—I’ve got so many friends I want you to meet.”
Being part of the socialite wasn’t as easy as it looked. Tiffany took Lisa around the room, introducing her to what felt like a never–ending list of girls–daughters, cousins, friends–each name more confusing than the last. Lisa’s head was spinning.
“Lisa?” a voice called out unexpectedly. “Wow, it’s been ages—I barely knew it was you. Wait, did you get some work done or something?”
Lisa glanced upward and noticed a girl with a chubby face.
She wore designer clothes and glittering jewelry, and her light makeup made her look even more adorable. Although she gave off a pampered, sweet vibe, the edge in her tone showed she was used to getting her way.
It was Winona Jarrett -Neil’s little sister.
Lisa hadn’t seen her many times before, but she remembered her clearly. When she’d first returned to Arglonas, Winona had come with Neil to the Olsen Mansion–and she’d looked down on Lisa as if she were dirt.
