“No, that’s not necessary,” Wilfrid said quickly, rejected the idea. “This is Mr. Mario’s personal request. I wouldn’t dare touch it.”
Mario finished reading the report and set it aside. His gaze suddenly froze, and his brow furrowed. “Tiffany, what happened to your hand?”
Tiffany instinctively pulled her hand back and said, “It’s nothing. I just cut my finger while mincing the meat.”
In truth, it was Lisa who had cut her finger. She hadn’t reacted much, simply rinsing it under cold water and continuing with the cooking.
On her way over, Tiffany had already wrapped a Band–Aid around her left index finger.
“How careless,” Mario scolded. “You shouldn’t cook anymore.”
“That’s out of the question,” Tiffany responded, lifting the bowl toward him. “Look at you. How could I leave you like this?”
Wilfrid sighed quietly. “Mr. Mario, Ms. Tiffany is so kind to you. Look at the other heiresses. I doubt any of them have ever stepped foot in a kitchen, yet Ms. Tiffany is cooking so well, just to take care of you.”
The cold expression on Mario’s face softened slightly. “Mm. She’s always thoughtful.”
“You’re making me blush with all this praise,” Tiffany said, clearing her throat. “I’m not as great as you say. Mario’s sick. Isn’t it just what a sister should do?”
Wilfrid added, “Speaking of sisters, where is Ms. Lisa?”
Mario’s face darkened immediately.
Tiffany had been running around, doing everything for him, while Lisa–since his accident–hadn’t even bothered to visit him.
“Lisa is … busy,” Tiffany answered. “But she’s still concerned about you. She even asked me how you were doing before I left.” Mario’s voice grew cold. “You don’t need to speak for her. What could she possibly be busy with now?”
Tiffany lowered her gaze, hesitated, then said, “Mario, please don’t be angry with Lisa. Maybe she’s been distracted because of her new relationship.”
“Relationship?” Mario’s face darkened even further. “With William?”
“I’m not sure,” Tiffany replied. “But on Shania’s birthday, someone gave Lisa a dress. She was really happy. It must have been from her boyfriend, right?”
The veins on the back of Mario’s hand visibly tensed, and he nearly dropped the bowl he was holding.
Lisa is such an idiot. How could a scum like William possibly deserve to marry a daughter of the Olsens?
“Mario… “Tiffany said gently. “Please don’t get upset. A playboy like William is good at deceiving young girls. Lisa’s never experienced anything like this before, so she’s easy to fool. I’ll talk to her. Please don’t lecture her. If you do, she’ll only become more rebellious.”
Mario scoffed. “She’s older than you, but you’re the one who’s going to teach her about what’s right. She’s getting more and more out of hand!”
Tiffany didn’t respond, quietly waiting for Mario to calm down.
After a long silence, Mario spoke. “Go back and tell Oscar that Lisa is not to leave the house until I’m discharged. When I’m out of here, I’ll handle her myself.
Tiffany hesitated, wanting to argue, but she knew she couldn’t, so she reluctantly agreed.

Wilfrid walked her out as she left. “Ms. Tiffany, don’t be too protective of Ms. Lisa. Mr. Mario has worked so hard for the company, and it’s worn him out. Ms. Lisa hasn’t even come to see him once. Now, she’s involved with someone like Mr. Lloyd … You know Mr. Mario has been scolding Mr. Nathan repeatedly because he’s hanging around with the wrong crowd.”
“I know,” Tiffany sighed softly. “But I don’t want them to fight … I think Lisa has been away for so many years. The family owes her. I just wish we could all act like a real family…”
Wilfrid patted Tiffany’s shoulder with a wistful sigh. “If only Ms. Lisa could be as understanding as you. Mr. Mario wouldn’t be so upset about her all the time.”
Tiffany smiled weakly, but there was determination in her expression. “They’re siblings. There’s no permanent grudge between them. They’ll make up eventually.”
Lisa had never imagined that after all the effort she put into making Mario tortellini in brodo, the result would be her being placed under house arrest.
Oscar said, “Mr. Mario ordered that until he’s discharged, you’re not allowed to go anywhere. You’re to stay home. If he finds out you’re sneaking out to see someone, when he returns, he’ll break your legs.”
Lisa didn’t say anything as she gritted her teeth. She wanted to say something, but instead, she swallowed her words.
No one in this house ever listened to her.
Instead of going back to her room, Lisa climbed up to the top floor and gazed out at the sunset. The evening glow was breathtaking, like a painting, rich and vibrant, filling the entire rooftop. The night breeze stirred her long black hair. Slowly, she moved closer to the railing, leaning forward with half her body over the edge.
She wasn’t actually intending to jump and end it all. If she did, it would be too much of an insult to fate, which had granted her a second life.
