The main room was packed with people, so Mona led Lisa to a quieter table at the back. It wasn’t long before Elena appeared, carrying a tray of food. As soon as Mona spotted it, her mouth dropped open in surprise. “Mom! I’ve been begging for garlic prawns for ages, and you’ve never made them for me. But the minute Lisa shows up, you cook it for her? What’s going on here, huh? Are you playing favorites?”
Elena tapped her on the forehead playfully. “Stop complaining. You won’t starve just because you don’t get it. Look at Lisa- she’s too skinny. She needs something hearty to eat.”
Lisa quickly added, “Thank you so much, Mrs. Robson.”
“Oh, it’s nothing, nothing at all,” Elena replied, her voice filled with warmth. She looked at Lisa with such affection it seemed her eyes might overflow. She patted Lisa’s head gently and said, “You’ve got such a beautiful face. If I had a daughter, I’d want her to be just like you.”
Mona groaned in mock disbelief. “Mom, am I not beautiful?”

Elena rolled her eyes. “Just seeing you irritates me.”
She turned back to Lisa, beaming. “Enjoy your meal, okay? If you want more, just come back and tell me. I’ve got to get back to work up front, so I’ll leave you two to eat.”
Lisa nodded quickly, grateful for the warmth.
“Did I scare you?” Mona asked, popping a shrimp into her mouth. “She does that with everyone I bring home. She just loves them.”
Lisa replied softly, “That’s because she cares about you.”
Mona paused, then let out a light laugh. “Well, I guess so. Your mom must be the same, right?”
Lisa nodded. “Yeah, she is.”
When Lisa was younger, she would bring friends over, and Wanda would always offer the best snacks she had–though those snacks usually consisted of nuts and cookies–things Wanda herself couldn’t bear to eat.
After finishing the meal, Lisa prepared to leave, but Mona said, “Let me walk you home.”
“No, it’s okay,” Lisa responded. “I’ll take the subway; it’s faster.”
The truth was, Lisa wasn’t entirely honest. The Olsen Mansion was located in a fancy neighborhood, and people who lived there didn’t typically rely on the subway. The nearest station was quite far, and she’d need to take a bus to get there.
But if Mona walked her home, Lisa would struggle to explain why she lived in such an expensive area while also selling sausages to earn a living.
Mona didn’t press the issue. Lisa made her way back to the Olsen Mansion, which felt unusually silent. A few servants were scattered around, chatting lazily. They hardly took notice of her as she walked in.
Lisa let out a quiet sigh of relief. It seemed like no one had noticed anything unusual.
She went straight to her room and hid the money she’d earned that day, along with the cash Mona had transferred into account, under her inattress. After a quick shower, she lay down on the stiff bed, feeling a strange sense of calm.
It was strange, but besides money..nothing else seemed to provide her with such a feeling of security.
She was nearly asleep when she suddenly heard a disturbance outside, followed by shouting. Someone was definitely drunk. Lisa turned over and pulled the covers tighter around her, trying to block it out.
But then, there was a loud thud on her door. “Lisa! Get out here, now!”
Lisa’s lips pressed tightly together.

She knew that even if the door was smashed down, no one would bother fixing it. Wanting to hold on to whatever privacy she had left, she reluctantly got up and opened the door. The smell of alcohol hit her hard.
Julius had just come back from a party, clearly drunk, his eyes red and angry. With a mocking laugh. he said, “You sure seem to be living the good life, huh? While I’m out there being ridiculed, you’re just here, sleeping!”
Lisa knew Julius had been struggling lately, especially with his new album. The entertainment industry could be brutal—one moment, they’d treat you like royalty, and the next, they’d bring you crashing down without a second thought.
She kept her face neutral, though she couldn’t help but think to herself. “Julius, you’re drunk. You need to rest.
“Rest?” Julius scoffed. “This mess I’m in is all your fault. You’re sleeping while I’m out here miserable!”
Lisa replied quietly, “I’ve already told you–I don’t know anything about it.”
“You little … ” Julius raised his hand as if to strike her but stopped, rubbing his forehead and sneering. “Go make me some hangover soup.”
His anger was palpable–so intense, even the entire house seemed to feel it. The other servants scrambled to obey, but Julius barked, “Did I tell you to do it?!”
He turned his glare to Lisa. “You go. Now.”
Lisa’s face went pale.
First, Mario had grounded her for no reason, and now Julius was taking his anger out on her.
“I don’t know how,” Lisa said flatly.
“Then learn!” Julius kicked the door in frustration. He had been simmering with rage for a while, but Bernard had told him not to lay a hand on Lisa. So, instead, he was directing his frustration elsewhere.
Lisa gritted her teeth but said nothing. She walked toward the kitchen.
