Tifany froze.

She cursed Lisa a thousand times in her mind, then she quickly flagged down a cab and followed her. The car finally stopped at the entrance of a school.
It was still too early for school to be out, so the area was eerily quiet. Tiffany watched as Lisa stepped out of the car, greeted a girl she didn’t recognize, and the two of them began setting up a stall.
“What is this?” Tiffany couldn’t believe what she was seeing.
Lisa snuck out just to sell sausages?!
Though Tiffany never ate such cheap food, she instantly recognized it–the typical combination of starch and some questionable meat shaped into sausages. Lisa really is something, isn’t she? The distinguished Ms. Lisa, standing in front of a school, selling sausages like some street vendor. Tiffany couldn’t help but feel both surprised and amused.
She quickly pulled out her phone and snapped a few pictures. If Maggie or Mario ever saw these photos, they’d probably blow a gasket. Lisa would certainly get a good scolding, maybe even a good old–fashioned reprimanding.
The thought of it made Tiffany feel a little lighter, and she almost sent the pictures to Mario when suddenly her hand froze. The girl with the round face said something, and Lisa’s eyes lit up with a smile. Even though Lisa was wearing a mask, Tiffany could still tell–it was a genuine smile, one Tiffany had never seen before. It was carefree, happy, and real.
Tiffany’s fingers tightened around the phone, a new idea forming in her mind.
Why just take pictures when they can see for themselves?
If Lisa’s friends find out about her situation, will they still stick around as friends?
Lisa and Mona worked quickly to set up their stand. Business had been steady lately. Since their sausages were cheap, fresh, and the stall was clean, even some teachers had started buying from them when passing by.
“Tomorrow’s Friday,” Mona said, “You won’t be here for the weekend, right? The school’s mostly empty except for the seniors who come in for extra classes.”
“Yeah, Lisa replied, nodding. “My brother will be home on the weekends.”
She had heard that Mario would be discharged tomorrow and would be home for the entire weekend.
She wondered when his grounding would end so she wouldn’t have to sneak out through the dog hole anymore.
You have a brother too?” Mona asked, her eyes wide. “He must be really handsome!”
Yeah, I have several brothers Lisa shrugged. “They’re… fine, but they all have bad tempers.”
“Bad tempers” Mona giggled. “With someone as gentle as you, they must be pretty calm!”
Lisa just smiled.
Genale? I’m more accustomed to bottling everything up inside.
By the time most of the students had left for the day, Lisa was packing up the stall. Mona looked at her and said, “My mom’s making country–style pork ribs tonight. You want to come over?”
Tve been to your house so many times I feel like I’m imposing
So what Mona waved her hand dismissively. “I need to cat too!”
She grabbed Lisa’s hand and said seriously. “We’re friends, right? Why act like you have to keep everything so separate?”

Friends…
The word felt distant to Lisa, almost foreign. She hadn’t expected to find real friends in Arglonas.
But when Lisa heard Mona say that, something warm stirred in her lonely heart, and she couldn’t help but smile. “Yeah, we’re friends.”
Later that evening, Lisa came home late. As soon as she stepped into the living room, she froze, startled to see Tiffany sitting there, waiting for her.
Tiffany suddenly looked up, making Lisa jump in surprise.
“Lisa, where have you been?” Tiffany demanded. “I knocked, and you didn’t answer.”
“I went upstairs to get some fresh air,” Lisa said, frowning. “Is there something you need?”
“No,” Tiffany replied coldly. “Do I need a reason to come see you?”
She raised her voice. “Greta, bring out the food.”
Greta quickly responded, bringing out three freshly made dishes and a soup, not leftovers.
Had this been before, Lisa wouldn’t have cared about Tiffany’s intentions–she would’ve just eaten. But she’d already eaten at Mona’s house, where Mona’s mother had cooked a great meal. They’d even had strawberries for dessert. She was stuffed now and didn’t have an appetite left.
Lisa glanced at the food, then looked away. “What’s this about?”
“I was worried you hadn’t had dinner,” Tiffany said, trying to sound concerned. “Eat something.”
“I’m fine.” Lisa started to walk away.
“Lisa.” Tiffany’s voice softened, but it still carried a weight. “Mario’s coming home from the hospital tomorrow. Aren’t you coming with me to pick him up?”
“Pick him up from the hospital?” Lisa scoffed. “To thank him for grounding me?”
Without another word, Lisa walked straight to her room.
“Ms. Tiffany, why are you being so nice when she doesn’t even appreciate it?” Greta muttered. “Look at her attitude. She really needs a lesson.”
