“Oh, now is fine,” Steven said with a friendly smile. “Our boss was hoping to invite Ms. Lisa for a coffee. Do you think she’d be willing to join us?”
Lisa was caught off guard by the suggestion.
Despite the anger burning in Mario’s eyes, he quickly made a decision.
“Lisa,” Mario said, his voice calm as he gently fixed her disheveled hair. “Since Mr. Hale has extended the invitation, you should go.”
He patted her shoulder, narrowing his gaze slightly. “Go ahead and have a nice chat with Mr. Hale, understand?”
Lisa lowered her eyes, her voice almost a whisper. “Understood.”
“Good. Then go on,” Mario ordered. “I’ll be waiting at home for you.”
Lisa followed Steven as she led the way. Steven glanced over his shoulder and said, “You seem a bit nervous.”
Lisa sighed softly. “It always feels like you all see me at my worst.”
Steven turned to her with a gentle smile. “Maybe you’ve seen others at their worst too.”
Lisa froze, surprised by the unexpected comment.
“Go on,” Steven encouraged, opening the car door. “The boss is waiting for you.”
Lisa hesitated briefly before climbing into the car.
Flint was lounging against the back seat, a stack of paperwork resting on his lap. His features were sharp, his expression icy and distant.
The angle of his face, the intensity of his eyes, made him look even more unapproachable–his gaze cold enough to freeze the air around him.
“Mr. Hale,” Lisa said carefully, “is there something you need from me?”
Flint glanced up for a moment, his eyes scanning her quickly.
In an instant, he took in her appearance, making sure she wasn’t harmed, before speaking again. “Didn’t Steven tell you? I just wanted to buy you a cup of coffee.”
Lisa was even more confused now.
Why would someone like Flint, who’s so busy and important, take the time to personally invite me for coffee?
But since Flint didn’t elaborate further, Lisa knew she couldn’t press for more details. She leaned back against the seat, her eyes wandering to the remnants of her small food stall, and a wave of discomfort swept over her.
Although she hadn’t invested much in it, she had put a lot of effort into making it work.
“I’ll have someone clean up for you,” Flint said casually, his voice soft yet distant. “Stop crying.”
Lisa hadn’t realized she was silently crying until he pointed it out.
She quickly wiped her eyes and shook her head. “It’s okay. I didn’t expect to keep it up for long anyway.” Now that Mario had discovered her, making money off the stall was almost impossible.

The initial success had mostly been due to the novelty–students were curious, word of mouth spread, and to try it. But over time, the profits hadn’t been as good as she’d hoped. After all, it was just sausages–no matter how well you made them, they couldn’t be considered gourmet.

Lisa had only started the stall to save up a little money for her next move.
With Mario’s interference, her plans had been thrown off, but it wasn’t the end of the world.
“Mr. Hale,” Lisa said, turning to him. “Do you think what I’m doing is embarrassing?”
The Hales were at the top of the social ladder in Arglonas–they cared about appearances, surely more than the Olsens did, right?
Flint raised an eyebrow. “It’s a legitimate business. What’s embarrassing about that?”
Lisa was momentarily taken aback, then managed a wry smile. “Yeah, but…”
She didn’t finish her sentence. She wasn’t one to open up easily, so she quickly shifted the conversation. “I heard you’re here to pick someone up. Why haven’t I seen them yet?”
With all the chaos, it was around the time when school was letting out.
“I’ve picked up the person I’m here for,” Flint replied, giving a brief command. “Drive.”
“Understood,” Steven said with a nod. “Boss, where are we headed?”
“The restaurant we booked,” Flint answered.
Lisa didn’t see the person Flint said he was picking up until the car came to a stop. As they entered the restaurant, she suddenly realized–the person Flint had been referring to was probably her.
Lisa froze.
“Is something wrong?” Flint asked, pausing to look at her. “Your ears are turning red. Are you feeling unwell?” “Uh, no,” Lisa quickly answered. “I’m fine!”
She couldn’t bear to look him in the eye, so she focused on her surroundings instead. That was when it hit her–she recognized this restaurant.
Though she had never been there before, she had heard Winona and Tiffany talk about it. This was an exclusive rooftop garden restaurant with a VIP–only reservation system. If you weren’t a VIP, you couldn’t even book a table.
The restaurant’s VIP access was by invitation only–meaning they sent out invites to select clients, and that was the only way to get in.
It sounded a bit absurd, but the strategy had turned the restaurant into another symbol of status in Arglonas‘ elite circles. Sometimes, the wealthy seemed so superficial–owning something exclusive gave them a sense of satisfaction.
