Chapter 24 I Don’t Have a Phone
She felt it was her fault her daughter was burdened
“Mom, you’re up. I’ve already made some soup. Drink it while it’s still warm.
Shana took the bowl and smiled. Jocelyn, you worked so late last night. You don’t have to get up early just to make soup for me. I should be cooking for you instead.”
Jocelyn chuckled. “It’s fine, Mom! I’m not tired. When you’re feeling better, you can cook for me then.”
That afternoon, Jocelyn headed to work.
As soon as she stepped into the store. Fritz called out, “Wait a second”
“Are you talking to me?” Jocelyn turned her head slightly
(Yes” Fritz nodded.
“Is something wrong?” she asked,
Fritz looked at her, trying to steady his nerves. “I’m Fritz Lier. I heard your name is Jocelyn, right?”
Yep, that’s me.”
Standing so close to Jocelyn, Fritz felt his cars heat up. “Are you still in school?”
Jocelyn nodded. “I am.”
Fritz froze fora moment. Hadn’t Mom said Jocelyn had dropped out?
After a pause, Fritz continued, “I go to Maplebridge School. How about you?”
Maplebridge School was a prestigious school in Cloudhaven, and Fritz’s eyes lit up as he mentioned it.
“I go to Nordbridge School, Jocelyn.replied.
Fritz was stunned again.
While Maplebridge was a good school, it didn’t compare to Nordbridge School, the top high school in Cloudhaven. Known for its exceptional faculty and rigorous academics, Nordbridge was a dream for many. Fritz had almost gotten in himself but fell just short
Could someone as stunning as Jocelyn attend Nordbridge School?
Fritz pulled out his phone, “Can we exchange numbers?”
Jocelyn shook her head. “Sorry, I don’t have a phone.”
“What?”
Fritz blinked, then quickly pieced it together.
Claiming she didn’t have a phone was a lie. She must be hiding something on her social media–something she didn’t want
him to sec.
Like proof that she wasn’t attending Nordbridge School
Jocelyn must be feeling guilty.
Just then, Louisa called Jocelyn over,
Chapter 241 Don’t Have a Phone
Finished
From the start, Helga had never considered Jocelyn a good girl and was constantly worried she’d be a bad influence on Fritz.
Fritz grinned. “Mom, Jocelyn just told me she’s attending Nordbridge School. I think you might have misunderstood her.”
“Nordbridge School! Her? Helga sneered. “Why not claim she’s going to Greenwich University while she’s at it?”
Greenwich University was Pinecrest’s top–tier college, a dream school for countless students. With its sky–high admission scores, only a handful of out–of–town students were accepted each year.
Helga dreamed of Fritz getting into Greenwich University someday.
Speaking with a mix of earnestness and disdain, she said, “Fritz, let me tell you something. The prettier the girl, the better they are at lying. Think about it–if she got into Nordbridge School, would she need to work at our store?
“Stop talking to her so much. She’s jealous of your family’s wealth and probably has ulterior motives. Her words trailed off. but the implication was clear. “Fritz, you have to understand–you and her are from different worlds.”
Jocelyn’s life would always revolve around working for others, while Fritz was destined for college and a future with a well- Jeducated, city–born girl.
Fritz thought Helga had a point.
If Jocelyn truly attended Nordbridge School, she’d be at home studying, not working.
Didn’t she care about getting into a good college?
She was lying
Honestly, Fritz didn’t want to talk to Jocelyn much either–after all, like attracts like.
But every time he saw her, his heart raced uncontrollably. It was a strange feeling he couldn’t shake.
That evening, Jocelyn went to the casino with Richard, just as she had the previous night..
As usual, she kept a low profile,
For several consecutive nights, Jocelyn and Richard visited the casino, winning modest sums each time.
Dominic and Caleb were there every ni
night too.
Leaning against the railing. Dominic smirked. “See, Caleb? Told you she’d show up every night. Honestly, who still plays hard–to–get like this? It’s laughable.”
Caleb glanced over, raising an eyebrow. “What do you think she’ll do next?”
