Chapter 25 Stay Ugly
Dominic said, “She’ll stick around until you finally notice her.”
Caleb didn’t say anything, his refined face devoid of any discernible emotion
Would things unfold the way Dominic predicted?
It was intriguing
Over the past few days, the barbecue joint had been unusually busy Customers filled one table after another, and during peak hours, there was even a line out the door.
When Jocelyn was busy, she wasn’t one for small talk. She preferred to work quietly and get the job done.
She also happened to be stunning, which made everything she did a pleasure to watch.
“Hi, could we take a picture together?” A tall, handsome young man finally mustered the courage to ask as Jocelyn served the
food.
He had been coming to the barbecue joint for days now, observing Jocelyn each time.
She was beautiful–her lips a natural shade of red, her teeth perfectly white–and she didn’t even wear makeup. Her effortless charm was utterly captivating
In truth, he wasn’t the only one drawn to the restaurant because of Jocelyn’s looks
I’m sorry, Jocelyn declined politely. I’m not a fan of taking pictures.”
Then can we exchange contact information?” the young man asked eagerly. “I’m Chris Winters, a junior at Cloudhaven University. Here’s my student ID. I promise I’m not a bad guy!”
“I don’t have a phone, Jocelyn replied honestly.
Chris looked momentarily embarrassed. “Well I guess that’s that. Sorry for bothering you.
“It’s no problem, Jocelyn replied calmly.
Helga, the restaurant owner, also noticed the sudden uptick in customers. Their business had always been decent, but they’d never had a line before.
Could Jocelyn be the reason!
After all, since Jocelyn had started working there, the crowd only seemed to grow larger every day.
Turns out being beautiful wasn’t entirely useless.
With that thought. Helga’s attitude toward Jocelyn softened. She offered with a smile, “Jocelyn if you’re feeling tired, take a break. It’s no problem. I’m not the kind of boss who overworks her employees.
Thank you. Jocelyn replied, nodding slightly.
“No need to thank me. Helga said warmly, giving Jocelyn’s hand a light pat.
Just then, a young woman dressed head–to–toe in designer labels walked by and spotted Jocelyn tidying up a table. Nudging the short–haired girl next to her with her elbow, she asked in surprise, Lisa, is that who I think it is?”
Lisa covered her mouth in disbelief. “Oh my God! That’s Jocelyn?”
“Come on, let’s go check it out.”
The two approached cautiously, unable to believe what they were seeing. It had only been a little over ten days, but Jocelyn’s transformation was staggering.
Chapter 25 Stay Ugly
Jocelyn instantly recognized the two as Lisa and Maric.
Finished
In her memories, the original Jocelyn had always been heavily made up and provocatively dressed, largely because of their influence.
Lisa and Marie weren’t from the same elite background as Jocelyn. Though they were part of Cloudhaven’s upper class, they couldn’t compare to families like the Moores. They had always envied Jocelyn–her beauty, her privileged upbringing–and they made it their mission to flatter her, hoping to gain something in return while using her as a backdrop to elevate themselves.
The old Jocelyn had been naive, easily swayed by their shallow compliments.
If they said heavy makeup was attractive, she’d wear it daily.
If they praised her figure and told her revealing clothes suited her, she’d dress accordingly.
“Do you need something?” Jocelyn asked flatly, looking up at them.
“Oh, nothing” Lisa replied with a forced smile. “We just wanted to catch up. Marie and I have missed you since you left! By the way, why do you look so different now? You’re not even wearing makeup. You look awful like this!”
Marie quickly caught on to Lisa’s intention and chimed in, “Yeah, Jocelyn, you look terrible! We barely recognized you just
пок
A trace of mockery flickered in Jocelyn’s eyes before vanishing. With a helpless expression, she sighed. “I’d love to look better. and I’d love to wear makeup too. But you know how things are for me right now… Never mind, I’ll just stay ugly.”
Stay ugly? That wouldn’t do at all.
Lisa panicked and hurriedly pulled a wad of cash from her purse, pressing it into Jocelyn’s hands. Jocelyn, if you’re short on money, take this. Use it to buy makeup.”
“I can’t accept your money, Jocelyn protested.
Just take in Marie also handed her some cash, refusing to take no for an answer. “We’re like sisters! Lisa and I both want you to be as radiant as you used to be–stunning and irresistible to every guy around!”
