Chapter 30 The Price of Pride
“Are you sure you girls can finish all of these? You’ve ordered so much,” Jocelyn politely reminded.
*Finished
Marie’s eyes squinted dangerously. “Are you the customer or are we? Haven’t you heard the saying that the customer is king If I tell you to take the order, you take the order. Who do you think you are, questioning us as a mere waiter?”
Ruby, who had been silent all this time, clenched her fists under the table. She couldn’t let her anger and jealousy slip. This situation had to stay firmly within her control.
“Alright then. Please wait a moment.” Jocelyn replied evenly, picking up the order slip and disappearing into the kitchen.
The second her figure vanished behind the doos, Ruby spun around to face Lisa and Marie, her tone sharp. “What’s going on between you two and her?”
Lisa told Ruby what happened last night, her voice tinged with frustration. “That little brt, Jocelyn, totally played us! She promised to buy makeup with the money we gave her, but by this morning, she denied it completely!”
“You two are absolute fools, aren’t you?” Ruby sneered, her gaze cold as steel. “Didn’t it cross your pea–sized brains that Jocelyn might’ve tricked you? You know she’s short on money, and yet you just handed it over to her on a silver platter?”
Idits.
The sheer stupidity made her blood boil
Only now did Lisa and Marie realize what had happened. They’d been outwitted by someone they’d always dismissed as a nobody.
“Lisa, how much did you give her last night?” Marie asked, her voice tense.
Lisa furrowed her brow, trying to recall. “Maybe more than 1,000 dollars. What about you?
Marie’s face turned white with fury. I gave her all the cash in my bag.” Her bag had held at least 3,000 or 4,000 dollars! The memory made her want to slap herself. How could she have been so gullible?
After a tense silence. Jocelyn returned, accompanied by Louisa, carrying the dishes the three had ordered. “Here you go, ladies. Jocelyn said with a smile “Be careful, the plates are hot
Lisa’s lips curled into a faint smirk as an idea struck her while looking at the lobsters and skewers. Just as Jocelyn was about to step back, Lisa’s voice rang out sharply, “Wait a second! These aren’t the dishes we ordered. You must’ve made a mistake.”
Louisa frowned and glanced at the order slip in her hand. “But these are exactly what you ordered,” she said firmly.
Marie caught on immediately and chimed in, her voice full of accusation. “Are you serious? There are only three of us. How could we possibly finish so much food? It was your careless waiter, Jocelyn, who got it wrong. These aren’t our dishes at all!”
Despite its modest size, this barbecue restaurant carried an impressive selection, even including premium items like lobsters and crabs. And those premium dishes were exactly what Lisa and Marie had their sights on without footing the bill.
The lobsters and crabs on the table were expensive delicacies, rare for customers to order. Now, Lisa and Marie were both adamant that Jocelyn had messed up the order. Naturally, if the dishes were wrong, Jocelyn would be the one to pay for them.
Lisa had checked the area before making her move. This was a blind spot in the surveillance cameras.
Marie slammed her hand on the table, her face twisted with anger. “Where’s your manager? Go get her! We need to see how she trains her employees. Allowing someone to mess up an order like this! No service awareness at all! This is forced consumption! I’ll call the cops!”
Louisa had been working at this barbecue restaurant for quite some time, but this was the first time she’d encountered such a scene. She quickly began to smile awkwardly, trying to defuse the situation. “Please don’t be angry, Ladies. This young girl is new. I’ll go get the boss right away.”

After saying that, Lisa turned her gaze to Jocelyn, “Kneel and apologize. If you do that, we’ll forget the whole thing”
Finished
Jocelyn placed the tray on the table, her gaze fixed steadily on Ruby and Lisa. A faint smile tugged at the corners of her lips, and her eyes, shimmering with a warmth that rivaled the glow of the restaurant’s lights. “Is that what you want? Fine. Ill play
your game.
In that moment, Jocelyn, though outwardly ordinary, radiated an undeniable aura. Her brilliance was blinding
Ruby and Lisa, drenched in expensive brands and arrogance, suddenly felt insignificant before her presence. An uncomfortable sensation washed over them both.
Ruby’s hands clenched tightly beneath her sleeves, her lingers trembling
Lisa narrowed her eyes, a flicker of annoyance dancing across her face. “Fine, if you refuse to behave, we’ll call your manager,
then
Jocelyn was nothing more than a lowly, insignificant person to her.
She had no power and no influence. What could she possibly do?
Louisa hesitated, pulling at Jocelyn’s sleeve gently, her voice quiet but laced with concern. “Jocelyn, why not just apologize and let it go? Sometimes it’s better to keep the peace, you know?”
The customer is king, after all.
Without solid evidence that these dishes were indeed theirs, Jocelyn would be the one to bear the brunt of it.
A whole table full of food, with lobsters, scallops, and crabs would easily be worth 2,000 to 3,000 dollars.
Jocelyn lowered her gaze, meeting Louisa’s eyes with a steady, calm expression. “Louisa, please, Just call the boss.”
