Simon drove to work with his usual icy expression.
To kill time and ease the awkward silence, I started scrolling my social media feed.
And that was when my world collapsed.
Last night, the aloof Simon posted an update. “Today, we added an extra set of cutlery at home.”
Besides a cute emoji, attached was a close–up shot of a massive plate of pasta–my plate of pasta. My right hand which was holding the spoon was also in the frame.
Even though the image quality wasn’t great, anyone could tell the plate was filled to the brim.
I had a big appetite, but since it was my first time eating at their house, I felt too embarrassed to ask for a second serving. So, I pressed the pasta down to fit more in.
At this moment, I wanted to dig a hole and bury myself in it
Moreover, the comments section was worse.
Among our mutual friends, Leah commented almost instantly after the photo was posted. “Who on earth is that? Ineed answers right now!”
Logan, who must have recognized my bracelet, left a series of increasingly unhinged comments.
“She’s at your place? What does this mean?”
“Tell her I’m waiting outside to pick her up.
“Damn you, Simon! Just you wait!”
I turned to Simon slowly. “Dr. Lawson… why did you post something like that?”
He remained perfectly composed as he responded, “People always think I’m cold and unapproachable. I wanted to show that I can be warm and hospitable.”
I was speechless.
“How do you even know Leah and… Logan?”
“Leah is a friend of one of my classmates. Three years ago, when I went abroad to study, she happened to be there too. One day, Logan suddenly texted me and wrote a bunch of nonsense… He even told me to take care of her.”
Something clicked in my memory. Years ago, Leah supposedly followed a guy overseas,
The realization dawned on me, and I gasped. “Wait–Leah was chasing after you?”
Simon abruptly turned to look at me, his gaze solemn and intense. “Nothing happened between us. We’re not even friends.”
I quickly pieced together the connections. “So… you’ve been able to see everything Logan posted on his social media over the past three years?”
“Yes.”
I suddenly recalled the first time I met Simon at the hospital–how he’d stared at me in a daze for so long that Josie had to practically shriek to snap him out of it.
