For the next while, I stayed at Josie’s place and commuted to work with Simon in the morning. With all the distractions, the agony of my breakup passed surprisingly fast.
Simon, like a once–feral man slowly integrating into civilization, started learning how to care for others. He even attempted to cook, which frightened Maria into thinking she would soon be out of a job.

Simon suddenly lost his love for overtime. With him clocking out on time every day, Dr. Wilson was left to shoulder the workload alone. His hairline was visibly receding at an alarming rate.
Josie remarked in admiration, “The most abnormal person in our family is finally becoming normal.”
But to me, Simon was still a little off.
Take last night, for example. Right before bed, he checked on me like I was one of his patients.
“How are you feeling? Have you been sleeping well these past couple of days?”
I nodded. “Yeah, I’m getting used to it.”
A moment later, he posted on his social media, “She’s finally used to my bed.”
He posted a photo of my clothes on the headboard of his bed. By the time I saw the post, the comment section was unnervingly neat.
“This comment has been deleted.”
“This comment has been deleted.”
I stared at him, speechless. “Dr. Lawson, was this another attempt to show off your hospitality?”
Simon calmly peeled a fruit for me. “No, this one was just to mess with someone.”
The first victim was Leah. Judging by how early she showed up at Simon’s door the next morning, she must’ve been too jealous to sleep.
She lurked outside, peering in, hoping to catch a glimpse of the mysterious girl who managed to drive her mad with envy. However, her timing was terrible.
Josie, who normally slept in, happened to wake up early that day.
The moment their eyes met, Josie’s grin turned downright sinister.
“Oh, you’ve found your way into hell!”
She’d been itching for a fight for ages but held back, bound by the constraints of civilized society. But now, there was no such restraint.
Rolling up her sleeves, Josie took a deep breath, steadied herself, and let out a battle cry.
“There’s a burglar! Catch her!”
