Hailey shivered and released his sleeve.
Tom rushed to the East Suburb reservoir that Officer James mentioned.
He saw the body covered by a white cloth.
Officer James pointed to an evidence bag that had been scaled and showed it to him. “This was fished out of the water. It should be her clothes. Please check if it’s Ms. Lawson’s.”
Tom didn’t need to check.
He recognized it at first glance-
The light blue dress was Jane’s favorite.
It was a birthday gift he had given her on her 18th birthday.
Seven years had passed, and the style of the dress had become outdated. The color wasn’t as soft and full as before, but it was still Jane’s favorite.
“Mr. Howard?”
Tom nodded. “It’s hers.”
Officer James nodded and comforted him. “Mr. Howard, please accept my condolences. It’s such a pity for such a young girl to leave this world so early.”
Tom didn’t speak for a long time.
Officer James thought he was overwhelmed with grief and didn’t press him, just comforting him. “I heard Ms. Lawson was a very talented photographer. Artists tend to be more emotionally fragile and sensitive…”
“She wasn’t fragile.”
Officer James was stunned. “Sorry, my comment wasn’t appropriate.”
Tom shook his head. “She isn’t Jane.”
“But you just recognized her clothes?”
“Her clothes were all donated,” said Tom, pulling away the white cloth that covered the body.
Everyone around was startled.
Especially Officer James. “Mr. Howard, what are you doing?
Tom looked at the girl’s face and immediately felt as though all strength left his body.
“Mr. Howard, are you okay?”
Tom closed his eyes, sighing in relief. “It’s not her. It’s good that it’s not her…”
“Mr. Howard, your phone is ringing. Do you want to answer?”
Tóm glanced at the phone, it was Hailey.
He just hung up.
Hailey called again, and he hung up again.
When the phone rang for the third time, Tom could no longer tolerate it. “What is it?”

The person on the other end was startled by his fury, their voice trembling. “Sorry to bother you, Mr. Howard. There’s a package for you. Are you available to sign for it?”
‘A package?‘
Tom frowned. “A package for me?”
“Yes, I’ve delivered it to the villa’s front door. Can you sign for it now?”
“I’m not available right now.

“Okay, sorry to bother you. I’ll contact you again tomorrow
“Wait!” Tom suddenly thought of something. “Who sent it to me?”
“It was from Ms. Lawson.”
Tom suddenly stood up, his voice sharp. “I’m coming back right now. Wait there for me!”
