I ignored her and went straight into Jason’s office, then placed the food container on the desk and carefully examined the entire office.
I quickly noticed two small green plants next to the computer, with sticky notes attached to them, decorated with cute patterns, looking playful and warm.
This spot used to hold my photo.
When decorating the office initially, Jason had strongly insisted on putting it there, saying that this way he could see my photo every time he looked up during work breaks, as if I was always there with him while he worked.
I laughed at him for being sentimental then, and he hugged me and whined, “I just want to put it here, so everyone can see that you’re my wife.”
I opened the drawer and, sure enough, found the photo frame face down in the corner.
As I reached for the frame, I accidentally knocked over a bottle nearby. The words “menstrual pain relief” were clearly visible on the bottle.
I never have menstrual pain, so it was obvious who these pills were for.
My heart felt like it was being tightly gripped by an invisible hand, making it hard to breathe.
I don’t know how I walked out of Jason’s office, leaving behind my bag and phone without realizing it.
When I went back to find them, I discovered that the lunch I had brought was in the trash can.
Amber looked at me with an embarrassed expression, “Jason said he had no appetite and asked me to deal with it. Other colleagues and I have already eaten, and we didn’t want to waste it, so we gave it to the cleaning lady. I don’t know why it ended up in the trash can, sorry…
She said sorry, but her face showed a hint of smugness.
“Where’s Jason?” I asked calmly.
“He went out.”
I reminded her, “Amber, you’re just Jason’s assistant. You should call him Mr. Quinn at work. Jason is an only child, he doesn’t have a sister.”
After I said this, I took my bag and phone and left, but Amber chased after me.
“Then I’d like to advise Mrs. Quinn something too. You’d better not come to bring lunch anymore.”
Her eyes held a challenge, “Jason works so hard every day, it’s really pitiful for him to eat such terrible food. Why don’t you do him a favor and stay at home? Stop holding him back!”
Very well, finally dropping the act.
“Amber, instead of provoking me here, why don’t you spend more effort on getting Jason to make you, his mistress, official?”
Amber was angered by my words, but she quickly smiled again, “The third wheel is the one who isn’t loved. Emily, you think Jason won’t divorce you because he loves you? No, he just pities you.”
“He doesn’t love you anymore. You’re getting old, not as young and beautiful and full of energy as I am. When he’s with me, he can feel the beauty and vitality of life. But you, you’re just a dull old hag. He says he can’t stand looking at you for even a moment!”
I calmly replied, “Oh, if he likes you so much, why doesn’t he divorce me and marry you?”
Walking out of the company, even though it was the height of summer, I felt cold and shivering.
