Sacha said quietly, her voice filled with emotion, “I didn’t realize how wonderful it feels to have a daughter to talk with.”
Davina hesitated before her lips curved into a quiet, gentle grin.

It wasn’t too busy at this time of day, yet several people kept glancing at the corner booth near the windows.
Their eyes often landed on a girl in casual clothes, a cap pulled low over her face, a long ponytail falling behind her.
She had a calm, easy vibe and sharp, elegant features that made people do a double take–some even guessed she might be a celebrity.
Sinting across from the girl was a young man. His looks were more delicate than striking–not the kind of handsome that grabbed attention–but he carried the quiet confidence of someone used to success.
Strangely, there was also a quiet, scrappy energy to him, and somehow, the mix just worked.
“You clean up nicer than I expected, Davina said with a teasing grin.
This was the same guy who had messaged her the previous day.
He returned her smile. “Meeting you called for a decent appearance, didn’t it?”
During her time in lockup, Davina had met a number of sharp, well–connected individuals.
Quite a few were in her debt.
Some had even told her they’d seek her out for shelter once they got out.
The guy sitting across from her was one of those people.
Davina reached into her bag, pulled out a bank card, and slid it over. “There’s cash on here. I want you to manage it.”
He accepted the card with an easy smile. “You really trust me that much?”
Davina’s eyes sparkled as she smirked. “I don’t second–guess the ones I put to work. But you should already know–crossing me has consequences.”
Caleb Johnston arched a brow, then tucked the card into his pocket.
“There’s a new film called Mythos that could use some funding, Davina said offhandedly, lifting her coffee and gently blowing on the steam.
“The entertainment industry?” Caleb asked, curious.
Davina gave a small nod. “Mm–hmm. I’ve got a part in it.”
“You playing the lead?” he asked.
“Just a side role. I’m on screen for maybe half a minute.”
Then, as if something clicked, Caleb asked, “Are you doing okay financially?”
Davina glanced up, her voice calm “The money will keep coming

“Don’t worry. Within a year, I’ll make sure your assets multiply,” Caleb said with a slight smile, reassuring Davina.
Davina’s face remained neutral as she simply replied, “You’d better.”

But at the peak of his success, he was betrayed by those he trusted and lured into committing financial crimes.
