Evelyn refused to believe that Nathaniel wouldn’t come. After all, he had been here just yesterday. delivering medication and explaining her condition in great detail.
Determined, she sent one of the household staff to summon him. But hours passed, and he never arrived.
Instead, a message came through her steward, relayed by the resident doctor. When Evelyn heard. it, her fury nearly boiled over.
Nathaniel’s words were clear: “There’s no need to call for me again. The actions of the people in Warren Estate are disappointing. Treating someone who lacks integrity would only shorten my life, and I have no desire to die prematurely.”
Evelyn slammed her cane against the floor. “Cassandra must have stopped him! I never imagined she could be this heartless.”
Her voice trembled with outrage. “When Adrian engaged her, I thought she was gentle and well- mannered. She never showed signs of being this scheming! But now, she’s trying to kill me. Without Nathaniel’s medicine, my life is at risk!”
JoAdrian, who had been silent until now, finally spoke. His displeasure was evident. He had assumed Cassandra’s recent defiance was just a phase, something she would grow out of. But this? This was crossing the line.
He turned to his youngest son, Fredrick. “Find your brother and tell him to control his fiance. If this continues, she’ll be the death of your mother.”
“Got it!” Fredrick rushed out without hesitation. He had once believed his sister–in–law was kind and respectable, but now, she seemed utterly ruthless.
Meanwhile, Chloe stormed toward Grace Mansion, rage burning in her eyes. But when she arrived, she found the gates locked tight.
Fuming, she pounded on the doors. “Cassandra! Come out here right now!”
Her voice echoed across the estate as she shouted, “No wonder my brother fell in love with Vivian. At least she doesn’t play dirty games like you. You deserve to be cast aside!
“Do you think hiding will protect you? This is Warren Estate! If you have the nerve to keep playing these games, you might as well stay locked away forever. But mark my words–after what you’ve done to my mother, you’ll meet a miserable end!”
From inside Grace Mansion, a calm voice rang out–Anna, Cassandra’s loyal maid.
“Lady Chloe, didn’t you say you wanted to return all the things my lady bought for you? Return them first before making accusations.”

She had considered returning them, but after realizing that nearly all her finest clothes and jewelry had come from Cassandra, she hesitated. Without them, she would be left with nothing but plain outfits and modest accessories–something she wasn’t willing to accept.
Anna’s voice remained composed. “Even so, isn’t it wrong to insult someone after accepting their generosity?”
Chloe hesitated for a moment, then scoffed. “Just wait until my brother returns. He’ll deal with her!”
With that, she spun on her heel and stormed off.
Anna let out an irritated sigh as she returned to Cassandra’s side, muttering under her breath, “They’re all so entitled.”
Then, glancing at Cassandra, she added, “You were right, my lady. Anywhere would be better than this place. Why hasn’t the separation decree come through yet?”
Cassandra chuckled softly, moving across the room with effortless grace. She reached up to the highest shelf of the cabinet, retrieving a small, dust–covered box before landing back on her feet. with practiced ease..
Opening the box, she revealed a coiled red leather whip–a gift from her mentor at Meadow Ridge. She had carried it with her when she first came into the Warren family, but she had never used it since. Beyond her daily warm–ups, she had barely even practiced her combat skills.
“My lady… are you planning to fight someone?” Anna asked cautiously.
Having spent years with Cassandra at Meadow Ridge, Anna knew firsthand how skilled she was.
Cassandra shook her head, running her fingers lightly over the leather. “No. I just wanted to see it again.
Even if she wanted to fight, she was still in mourning. She wouldn’t dishonor her parents by wielding a weapon during this period.
“After we leave this place, we’ll go to Meadow Ridge. I want to visit my master.”
Anna’s face lit up. “That sounds wonderful. Everyone at Meadow Ridge adores you. You’ll finally be surrounded by people who truly care about you.”
Cassandra carefully placed the whip back in its box, but this time, she didn’t return it to the high. shelf. If she was leaving soon, she would take it with her.
Her voice softened. “I hope my mother won’t blame me for not following her wishes. I did everything she asked. I waited. but he’s the one who failed me.”

Cassandra sighed, her gaze distant. “Marriage and children were never the destiny of Sinclair
Women.”
Anna sniffled. “They never saw your worth, my lady. In strategy, in combat–Vivian could never compare to you. If the late master and madam hadn’t kept you from the battlefield, you’d be unstoppable. If you had joined the military, Vivian wouldn’t stand a chance.”
Cassandra smiled gently. “I’m always perfect in your eyes, aren’t I?”
“Absolutely!” Anna declared, her nose still red from holding back tears.
