Seeing her come around, Jonathan’s lips curved up as he leaned in and asked, “What were you thinking just now?”
Sierra felt the topic was a bit risky and quickly changed the subject. “Who can we trust in Maviston?”
Kason had invited her to join his circle, and she was somewhat tempted. Only by joining could she gather more evidence: however, she would need to coordinate with the authorities first. Curious. Sierra asked. “What is it?”
“I went to the school today, and Mr. Wagner sought me out,” Jonathan explained.
His visit to the school had been anything but peaceful, he’d been approached by a continuous stream of people, all at the vice–principal level or higher.
“Mr. Wagner, the principal?” Sierra looked at Jonathan in surprise, hearing the principal’s name for the first time as usually. several vice–principals handled matters; the principal seldom appeared at school.
“Yes, Mr. Wagner–the only head principal,” Jonathan confirmed. “They all came to feel out the situation, wanting to see if you would stay
He chuckled. “Say you want to be a guest professor, and they’d probably agree right away.”
Sierra didn’t find it funny,
She had always liked Northwind University, but after a few incidents, the school’s image in her heart had changed, especially the things they did last time to make her leave; it was disheartening. She had thought it a sanctuary, but it turned out not to escape the sleaze.
If it weren’t for Jonathan teaching there, she wouldn’t have stayed. Lately, her inbox was flooded with offers from many prestigious institutions extending their olive branches.
It was hard not to be tempted, but for now, she wasn’t planning to leave Maviston. However, she definitely didn’t want to return to Northwind University; despite some professors being excellent, the place was too opportunistic.
Knowing this was normal didn’t make it easier to feel good about Northwind University.
Seeing her expression, Jonathan knew her answer. He held her a bit tighter and said, “If you don’t want to go, then don’t. After this semester, Iwon’t be going either.”
He had come here initially out of boredom and a desire to find Tano, but that need no longer existed.
Hearing this, Sierra’s heart stirred, “Are you leaving Maviston?”
“Not for now!” He could stall for a while longer, but he definitely needed to return to Albanos for the holidays.
Sierra knew Jonathan wouldn’t stay here forever. She couldn’t help but ask, “What about after that? Where will you go?”
“Back to Albanos” Jonathan didn’t hide it. “I was there before coming to Maviston to look for someone.”

Her heart fluttered slightly; among the institutions that had reached out was one from Albanos, a top university with the world’s most advanced equipment, the best professors, and cutting–edge research facilities. She had hardly believed such a prestigious school would invite her, knowing that Jonathan had graduated from there.
“Will you go back to your alma mater?” Sierra asked.
“No! I might need to take over some family matters, but I’ll be in Albanos,” Jonathan said.

The next day, Sierra went to school and, just as Jonathan had said, Northwind University’s reaction was nearly frightening. Her classroom was packed inside and out, all there to see her. She was uncomfortable with the situation, and even more so as countless people came up to apologize and beg for her forgiveness.
Sierra found their reactions excessive. Whether their previous slander or abuse, she had never taken it to heart. In her mind, they were strangers who couldn’t really hurt her.
