Chapter 5
As soon as I walked into the living room, Gavin struggled to stand up from the sofa.
Looking at his ankle in a cast and the luggage by his feet, I spoke softly.”
“What are you doing here?“}
Right after my voice fell, the already slightly awkward atmosphere in the room seemed to become even more suffocating.
Gavin unconsciously clasped the edge of his jeans with his fingers.
After a while, a little blood came out from between his nails and flesh.
This indicated that Gavin was very anxious now.
In the past, whenever he exhibited symptoms of anxiety, I would immediately hold his hand and speak softly to him to divert his attention and make him happy.
Gavin waited for a long time.
But I didn’t show any sign of walking towards him as before to stop his self–destructive behavior.”
After a while of silence, Gavin turned his face away and stared at the place next to the TV. He clenched his teeth.
“I’m injured. The doctor said that I need your care to get better.”
Gavin’s silly words really amused me.
I sat
sat on the single sofa and said to him, “Listen.”
“I know your dad forced you to come. But don’t worry. I won’t do as he wishes. I won’t show up in front of you in the future.”
But unexpectedly, Gavin shook his head quickly.§
He hurriedly explained, “I decided to come here on my own.”
Hearing this, I remained silent for a few seconds.
Then, I stated calmly, “No matter whose idea it was, you should understand that your dad and I have already decided to divorce. He wants custody of you, so you and him are a real family.”
Before I could finish my sentence, Gavin suddenly turned his gaze towards me. In his naive eyes, there was a mixture of panic and disbelief.0
“But, you’re my mom.“>
I remained expressionless and silent.
Seeing this, he frowned and said stubbornly, “No matter what, legally, I will always be your son.“}
Indeed, Gavin was my biological son.”
I used to give him all my love.
Unfortunately, he was not worthy of my love at all.
“Gavin, do you remember how you introduced me to the teacher at the commendation conference last year?” It was the day when Gavin won the championship in the International Mathematical Olympiad, Junior. He was named the outstanding top student of the year.§
To commend Gavin, the school informed me in advance that I would personally go on stage to present the award to him.§
In order not to ernbarrass Gavin, I, who usually dressed casually, went to a high–end styling salon and spent several hours dressing myself up.
However, just as I stepped into the auditorium and was about to shake hands with Gavin’s teacher, Gavin stopped me.
He brought Elsie over and took the initiative to introduce her to his teacher.
“This is my mother, Elsie.“}
Hearing this, Gavin’s teacher looked at me in confusion, while Gavin looked at me with disdain.§
He even said to me, “Ms. Gale, please bear in mind who you are. You’re just my nanny. Please don’t dress so flamboyantly and embarrass yourself on such occasions anymore.”
As a result, Elsie replaced me and went up to the stage to present the award to Gavin. She even took a photo with him amidst the long–lasting applause.
That photo was still in the most prominent place on Dominic’s desk.
In the living room, Gavin’s face visibly turned pale.
I continued in a calm tone, “Gavin.
“I know you’ve always been ashamed of having a mother like me. You dislike me.
“Since that’s the case, I will officially clarify it to you here and now N
“I, Aryanna Gale, am not your mother.
“You, Gavin Prescott, are no longer my son.
“Just as you said before, your family name is Prescott, not Gale.N
“From now on, we’re just strangers to each other.“8
