Salvatore’s face looked terrible, and I was sure he had recognized me.

I didn’t understand how they could recognize me when I was wearing my mask so securely.
Salvatore bid 712,000 dollars, drawing the attention of everyone in the club. Some even recognized who he was, their faces showing immense shock.
The godfather appearing in a bar and spending 712,000 dollars for a dance with a dancer was scandalous gossip.
But those in the know dared not utter another word on–site, nor even whisper the godfather’s
name.
I knew that these people feared the godfather, and I feared him too.
Salvatore started walking toward me just as Paolo burst forward, crazily running past him onto the stage.
He grabbed my hand as soon as he reached me. “Come with me!”
My wrist throbbed painfully, and I frowned. “Paolo, listen to me…”
Although I had never dealt with the Mafia before, I knew that angering them, especially the godfather, could lead to terrible consequences.
Many in the crowd, including myself, gasped.
I didn’t know Salvatore well, unsure if he was the type to pull a gun and kill someone without hesitation.
Before I could finish my sentence, Salvatore grabbed my other hand. “You’re courting death! Let her go!”
As he finished speaking, his men acted swiftly, knocking Paolo to the ground, one of them drawing a gun and pointing it at Paolo’s head.
“Do you want to eat a bullet? Behave,” one of his men said. At the sight of the gun, screams erupted, and many began to flee the bar.
Are you insane? No shooting allowed!”
I struggled free from the godfather’s grasp and rushed to Paolo, glaring fiercely at the man with the gun, then turned to Salvatore. “If you want to kill him, you might as well kill me too!”
Just then. Cecilia burst in, deliberately knocking off my mask and feigning shock poorly. “Bella, shouldn’t you be with the I eone family?”

Why would Cecilia choose such a time and place to ask such a question?

“Bella, you’re working as a dancer here? What if your husband finds out? Will he throw you out?”
Cecilia didn’t realize the man before her was Salvatore, nor that he was the Mafia godfather.
This fool, acting in front of the godfather.
Her seemingly caring words inadvertently spilled every secret not meant to be shared.
I realized Cecilia intended to expose my hidden private matters in front of Paolo.
Cecilia, heedless of the setting, pressed on. “You’re married, yet you run out to dance, deceiving your senior. What are your intentions? Now you’ve even got someone pointing a gun at you!”
Cecilia’s voice was loud, audible to several on stage.
Especially Paolo, who looked utterly shocked by her words.
His incredulous gaze pierced me as if I had deceived and played him.
“Tell your men to put down the gun!” I yelled at Salvatore.
Salvatore merely gestured, and his men immediately holstered their guns, standing respectfully behind him.
I looked at Salvatore with hatred, then at Cecilia. Both were intent on ruining my life!
I couldn’t believe my best friend for many years would disregard my reputation and loudly reveal my secrets in such a setting, in front of the boy I secretly loved.
What kind of friend was she? Disgusting.
“Bella, is what Cecilia saying true?” Paolo stood up, looking at me for confirmation.
All he got in response was my silence.
“So the rumors in school were true. You’re just like people say, deceptive, using your innocence to trick boys…”
“The girl I believed in turned out to be so disgraceful. I’m utterly disappointed.”
My heart felt as if it were being sliced open, but I couldn’t muster an explanation. What good would proving myself do? I had become the godfather’s wife, and he would never let me go for the rest of his life.
“Yes, it’s exactly as you say.” My heart felt torn apart, and I needed Paolo to despise and hate me. If he still cared for me, the godfather would never spare him.
