I left the bar with ease, thinking that someone as arrogant and aloof as the godfather surely wouldn’t be interested in hassling me.
With graduation approaching, I decided to focus all my energy on my major.
After four years of studying fashion design, my foundational skills were quite solid.
I opened a webpage, filled in my details along with my design sketches, and sent everything off to Rully Group, the most renowned fashion company, to schedule an interview.
Usually, such large companies take about a week to respond.
Since my job at the bar fell through, I used the free time to land a part–time sales position at a luxury store.
When the time came, I changed into my professional attire. Luxury stores had high standards for their staff, requiring makeup and hair to be done impeccably.
I laid my suit neatly on the bed, then turned and walked to my desk, which served as my makeshift vanity.
Sitting in front of the mirror, I took a deep breath, opened my makeup bag, and began with gentle, focused movements. First, I patted toner onto my face, letting my skin quickly absorb the moisture and become dewy and luminous. Next, I picked up my foundation and applied it evenly with a makeup sponge, carefully pressing into every nook to cover all my unease and
nervousness.
As I drew my eyebrows, my eyes fixed intently on the mirror, the eyebrow pencil in my hand cautiously outlining the shape, stroke by stroke, fearing any mistake. After my eyebrows, I started applying eyeshadow, choosing a subdued earth–tone palette, gently blending it onto my eyelids to make my eyes look more profound and spirited.
Then came the lipstick. I opened a tube of bright red lipstick, lightly applying it to my lips, pursing them briefly. Instantly, my complexion looked much brighter. Pleased with the refined look in the mirror, I was satisfied with the preparation, my eyes sparkling with confidence.
Finally, I slipped on a pair of black heels and walked around the room a few steps to feel the shoes‘ comfort and stability. Everything was ready; I took a deep breath, opened the door, and headed to my part–time job filled with anticipation and courage, determined to work hard and
earn money.
Upon arrival at the store, the manager briefed me on the dos and don’ts.
Luxury stores are rarely busy since they provide high–end services and we only approach customers when needed. Normally, we stand at our posts awaiting inquiries.

Just when I thought Roxy was about to leave and I secretly sighed with relief, Roxy’s voice rang out again. “Is this one of your salespeople?”
“She’s new might not know much. Maybe I’ll assign aveteran…”
Before the manager could finish, Roxy interupted impatiently, I want her to serve me.”
I knew I couldn’t escape. If fate wanted me to encounter Roxy, then it was a test from above..
I took a deep breath, stoodlum, and with approfessionally standard smile asked. “What can I do for you. Ms. Roxy??
Her gaze fell on a row of limited–edition high heels. “I want to try these shoes, size 6.5, go fetch
them now.”
There were over a dozen styles in the now, and I couldn’t possibly carry them all by myself. I knew she was deliberately making it difficult for me, but since I meeded this part–time job, I silently turned and went to the storeroom to ferde shoes, running back and forth several times to gather all the styles.
