Even the host faltered, visibly surprised by the extravagant bid for a single wedding gown.
“Two million once, two million twice, two million thrice–sold! Congratulations to Mr. Cameron, CEO of Blue Ocean Group, for winning this exquisite symbol of love and beauty.”
I turned and saw him standing amidst the crowd.
It was Bruce. Compared to the man I remembered, he seemed steadier, more composed, though there was an undeniable weariness about him now. For a moment, I thought it might just be a coincidence.
As Harvey and I exited the venue, the sight of countless luxury cars parked nearby served as a sharp contrast to our modest appearance.
I grabbed Harvey’s hand, quickening my pace, hoping to escape the growing unease that churned inside me.

Chapter 9
“Hailey,” Harvey said, his tone edged with concern, “why do you seem so nervous?”
Before I could answer, Bruce appeared in front of us, the gown in his hands.
I froze, unsure of what to say.
Harvey, however, seemed unfazed. Perhaps it was some primal instinct, but he instantly recognized the undercurrent of tension. His voice was cold, almost combative.
“Hello, can I help you with something?”
Bruce looked slightly awkward, his eyes drifting to where my hand was tightly clasped in Harvey’s.
“Found a new boyfriend?” he asked cautiously.
His question put Harvey immediately on edge.
“And you are?” Harvey’s tone sharpened. “Are you the cheating ex–husband?”
I squeezed Harvey’s hand gently, signaling him to stay calm.
“Mr. Cameron, is there something you need?” I asked.
It was the first time in two years that I faced Bruce directly. The sharpness I remembered in his gaze was gone, replaced by a fatigue that was difficult to describe.
He extended the gown toward me with deliberate care.
“I just wanted to wish you happiness,” he said softly.
