Chapter 20
Kaden
All hell was about to break loose. He could feel it. Looking at hose red Jenna’s face was getting, there was a good chance she was going in shap.
Alpha Carrington of Great Moon was speaking to him as Kaden tried to see what was going on with the Harks just a few seats down. It was difficult to answer the nian’s questions about what sort of fertilizer he used on the grass in the common areas and keep the blonde from exploding
Sending a message to his grandmother, he asked, “What did you do?”
“What did I do?” Hannah sent back. “Nothing! I invited a guest to dimmer.”
king at her dad.
“You know they don’t see it that way.” He would’ve said more, but Jenna’s voice hit a new octave as she shrieked, looking at
“Is this a joke!” She turned with tears in her eyes and looked at him.
Kaden’s mouth fell open as he tried to figure out how to handle the situation. Most of the guests were not paying any attention yet, but they were beginning to tune in as Jenu’s outrage became obvious. “I think perhaps, it was a mistake”
“A mistake!” Jenna asked her eyes still wide.
“There, honey- Just a mistake. No need to shout,” Kent said, taking the name card Jenna was still holding in her hand and crumpling it, despite the weight of the card stock. “All tied”
Jenna began to calm down, but Aler was stirring next to him. Kaden had already had to use the mind–link to pull him off of the Burks earlier when Jenna had been telling him to get away from Sienna. He was drawn to the girl like a magnet. It was almost like he should’ve been the one fated to marry her
But no
that was him.
His grandmother’s eyes were burning a hole through him as the servants brought the first course at. Kaden didn’t look at her. He knew that the wanted to include Sienna. Obviously, she liked the girl. Perlups it was just instinct that told her that this woman was supposed to be in their family at some point that created the bond, or maybe his grandma just felt sorry for her because she was not treated well. But she had to stop telling this other Alpha how to run his household. It would cause all sorts of trouble for the pack, and he didn’t need that. Not right now, not with Zane showing up on the borders again. This just needed to go away and not be a problem anymore.
The first course was salad, and everyone began to cat, commenting on how tasty it was–how the lettuce was so fresh, and the tomatoes were so juicy. Everyone was enjoying it, except for Jenna. A few bites into his salad, Kaden heard her say, “I would also like to eat, but my lazy servant hasn’t properly laid my napkin in my lap.”
No one else had a servant standing behind them. None of the wait staff that had brought the dishes had put napkins on anyone’s lap, including his. He stared at Jenna, not sure how to handle the scene she was causing. More guests had clued in on this outburst because it was relatively quiet with everyone eating. Kaden prayed Kent would put his daughter in her place,
He did not. Instead, he snapped his fingers in Sienna’s relative direction. She rushed over, picking up the napkin from the table and spreading it out onto Jenna’s lap. It was awkward and embarrassing, not just for Sienna and for Kaden who was the host after all, but it should’ve been for Jenna. She was acting like a child.
Perhaps she thought she looked more important to have someone else do that for her. She wore a grin on her face as she began to eat. Slowly, the conversation picked up again, and people began to eat and talk, not paying any mind to the spoiled brat in the pink dress. Kaden couldn’t help but notice how it made her face look flushed like she’d been running.
Sienna, on the other hand, wearing the pink sweater his grandmother had loaned her, looked lovely. She was standing over in the shadows. He could hardly see her, even in his peripheral vision, but he’d seen her before. Thoughts of how amazing she looked in just that towel came to mind, and he had to push them away. This was not the time or the place to have those sorts of thoughts about anyone, and it was never the time or the place to have them about her.
Engaging in a conversation with the people next to him was a distraction. Kaden became engrossed in discussing a plan regarding Zane with Alpha Carrington and Luna Justine, his wife, and almost didn’t notice when there was a problem with one of the courses.
It had to be lobster.
Jenna cleared her throat louilly, and Sienna stepped forward to break the lobster claws for her. It was clear she’d never done it before. When she crushed it, pieces few everywhere, including Jenna’s face. The obscenities flew from the woman’s mouth as natural as the air she breathed.
“You supid bich! What the hell is the matter with you! You did that on purpose, you little sh*t!”
“I’m so sorry, Miss Jenna, Sienna said so quietly that he could hardly hear it.
If jenna heard it, she didn’t accept the apology. “You are a pathetic little gutter rail”
“Enough!” Luna Hannah’s voice boomed across the room. “Alpha Kent, if you are going to allow your daughter to sit here and speak to another

human being like this, I’m afraid I’m going to have to ask all of you to leave my dining room. This is abysmall”
Kent’s face turned red. It was clear he was used to heating Jenna go on like that. He hadn’t even stopped eating his lobster. “No, no, it’s line, Luna Hannah, Tassure you. This girl has all sorts of problems. It’s no wonder she doesn’t know how to crack a lobister”
“It v not be.” Hannah said, ber voice even “Handle it, or I will”
ill By it. Kaden knew she meant Jenna, not Sienna.
Kent did not interpret it that way. “Sienna, go. Get out of here, now, Well… speak later.”
Kaden held his breath, not sure what that would mean for Sienna, but it couldn’t be good.
Keeping her head down, she left the room, sucking all of the wonderful fragrances, the light, and the air out with her as she went.
A moment later, the table slowly returned to a low level of speaking, but this wasn’t over. Grandma Hannah was glaring at him, and Alec looked like he was about to come undone and punch someone, probably Kent.
What could Kaden do? Yes, it was his home, but Alpha Kent was in charge of his own household. Perhaps he’d find a way later to speak to Kent in private and ask him if he could get Jenna to tone it down a bit. After all, Grandma Hannah was clearly upset by all of this, and it wasn’t good for her health to feel that way.
“I am so disappointed in you” His grandmother’s voice filled his head as Alpha Carrington told a story about his oldest son, who was twenty–four and married to the daughter of a Beta in a pack on the far side of his territories, one Kaden wasn’t familiar with. “How could you just sit there and let that happen! Do you hate that girl!”
“No. Grandma. I don’t hate her?
“Then how! That was terrible?”
“It’s complicated” He nodded and laughed at what Carrington was saying, though he wasn’t processing much of it.
“You must do something. See if you can talk Kent into leaving her here when he goes. He must want something
Kaden’s eyes shifted from Carrington’s face to his grandmother’s. He could hardly believe what she’d just said. Had she lost her mind? Leave Sienna here? There was no way in hell he could ever do that. Rejecting her was one thing when she’d be miles away, but if she was here. Absolutely not!
“I might be able to convince him to trade her to another pack for something, Grandma, but that girl is not staying here. No way.”
“What? Why not?” She was staring back at him now. It had to be clear to Carrington that something was going on because he’d stopped talking. Luckily, Alec picked up for Kaden, and the conversation between the two of them continued. Alec might have hated him at the moment, but he was still a good Beta, and a good best friend.
“I said why not” His grandma demanded
“Because…” He couldn’t tell her the truth. He couldn’t tell his grandmother that she was his fated match, that he was supposed to marry her, that the Moon Goddess wanted them to fall in love and get married. No, he couldn’t tell the truth. So he made up a lie. “Because you’re right. I do hate
