Chapter 29
The sound of Jenna and Sylvia giggling behind her had Sienna hesitating outside of Kaden’s office door. Jenna had already screamed at her once to hurry up and knock if she knew what was good for her, so she went ahead and raised her hand. The hump in her throat made it hard for her to
breathe, let alone swallow
“Who is it?” Kaden called. He sounded annoyed like he was really busy, and the last thing on earth he wanted to do was be interrupted.
Sienna opened her mouth to reply, but no sound came out
“Do it you stupid bich” Jenna shout whispered.
Sienna cleared her throat and tried again. “It’s, uh. Sienna,” she said, her voice cracking on every word.
She heard him repeat her name, a question mark at the end. “Sienna” There were some sounds that she thought might be papers shuffling before he said. “Yeah, come in
She had hoped he’d come out so that he could see the other two girls there and know that this was their idea, but then again, she wouldn’t have any choice but to say exactly what Jenna had told her to say if it happened outside, right in front of her.
Sienna slowly opened the door and stepped inside, closing the door behind her. He was sitting behind a desk piled with stacks of papers and folders. He looked really busy, and she felt bad for interrupting him. It was difficult to even get her feet to move over to the desk. As she did so, he pushed back his rolling chair and looked up at her expectantly. It seemed pretty clear that he was as surprised to see her there as she was to be standing in his office.
A glance at his desk also told her he had a map there, one with several Xs drawn on it. She tried not to stare as it wasn’t her business, and he was waiting for her to say something
“Sorry” That was the first thing that came out of her mouth. She glanced up and met his eyes for a second before dropping them back to the floor. “No, it’s fine. I’m just really busy, What do you need?”
He didn’t sound irritated, but he was in a hurry. “Luh needed to ask you something. Or telling you something. Or something”
The sound of laughter peeled through the air outside of the door, Whatever jenna and Sylvia were talking about, it must’ve been really funny
“Is Jenna out there with Sylvia?” Kaden asked, glancing over her shoulder at the door for a moment before he looked back at her. Not that she was looking at him, but she could feel the weight of his eyes on her.
“Yes” Sienna replied
you’re standing in here related to the fact that they are standing out there laughing?”
“And is the fact that y
Sienna cleared her throat. “Maybe”
A crooked smile spread across his face as he shook his head slowly. “What is it that they are forcing you to say to me?”
“That I would like to dance with you at the ball,” s
she said quietly, glad to get it out there.
“And would you actually like to dance with me at the ball
Sienna shook her head. It wasn’t exactly true. Maybe she would like to dance with him at the ball, but knowing that he didn’t want to dance with her made it easier to tell him no. Those visions of the two of them whirling around the dance floor stayed at bay. She also knew for certain she would not be wearing a beautiful ball gown when she showed up at the dance. Rather, she’d be wearing some hideous hand–me–down, her makeup would
be atrocious, and her hair would be in a ridiculous style tut made her look like she’d allowed a group of children to help het
She was expecting Kaden to say g
good, that he didn’t want to dance with her either. So when he said something else, she looked up into his face. “Why not?”
“Why not?” she repeated, not looking down. He still had a bit of that smirk on his face from a moment ago when he’d figured out why she was in there. Sienna cleared her throat again. It was a stall tactic this time. There was nothing lodged in her throat. She shrugged. “I don’t know. It’s not like you want to date with anc
He folded his arms across that perfectly sculpted chest, the muscles in his biceps visible with the movement beneath the blue T–shirt he was wearing. “1 never said I didn’t want to dance with you, Sienna. I said I didn’t want to marry you. Or anyone.”
“Well, if it’s all the same, I don’t think it would be a good idea. Besides, you know I’m going to look like a hideous doll some kid drew on with markers and dressed up in scrap clothing.”
He burst out laughing, which made her eyes w

Chapter 29
Kaden ran a hand through his hair and put both palms on the desk. “T’m sorry. I’m so sorry. I didn’t mean to be rude. Not at all. It’s just.. the way that you said it, not what you said. Anyway, I’m sure that my grandmother already has a plan in place for that so that you won’t have to go to the hall looking like, what you just said.”
The sound of his laughter had almost made her lose her stoic expression, but she’d fought the urge to let her face crack. “I don’t know if even your sweet grandmother can call them off this time. Even if I do look like a normal person at the ball, they’ll find a way to embarrass me‘
He wasn’t laughing now. His expression shifted. “You’re probably right. Din sorry Til see what can do”
“No, Alpha Kaden, it’s okay,” she said. “You don’t have to do anything I don’t want you to. It would probably actually be better for me if you just yelled at me and ordered me out of your office.” She looked at the door. They were strangely quiet out there, but she knew they hadn’t left. They were probably wondering why Kaden wasn’t yelling yet and she wasn’t crying
“Tim not going to yell at you
you, Sienna. But I am going to ask you to duce” Her eyes widened at him, and he shrugged like it was no big deal. “You can turn me down if you want to, but even if you are dressed the way you described, you’ll still be the prettiest girl there.”
The color rose sa rapidly into her face, she thought she might pass out. She’d been near fainting more than once in her life, usually from being smacked around, but this was different. This was a compliment. From a guy. From a hot guy.
And then she remembered that he was her rejected mate. She wished her stupid face hadn’t given her away. “Thanks,” she muttered like guys told her she was pretty all the time. Tim just gonna go now.”“”
“Alright.
“Alright. That’s probably for the best. I’ve got a lot of work to do.”
She nodded and turned to walk away, but he stopped her when he called her name. Sienna slowly turned to look at him again.
“What are you going to tell them I said?” Kaden asked
Sienna shrugged. “To get out of your office?”
“But that’s not what I said,” he reminded her.
She turned back to face him. “What do you think I should tell them?”
He thought about it for a second before he said, “Tell them I said I’m looking forward to it
Sienna’s eyes widened again. “I can’t tell them you said that! They’ll kill me!”
“No, they won’t Tell them. Have some fun.”
You make it sound so easy”

“I know they’ll be shocked. By

“And they’ll come in here to tell you what I said, and then you’ll be interrupted again,” she reminded him.
“That’s a good point
Sienna nodded, glad to have cleared that up for him.
“Make sure you lock the door on your
on your way out.
A smile crept into place as she turned back around and headed for the door again, taking the time to lock it before she stepped through and closed it behind her. She barely looked at either of the blondes who were standing there, waiting for her, as she headed down the stairs, on her way back to Kaden’s house. After all, Jenna had said she could go as soon as she asked him
“Well! What did he say?” Jenna demanded
Sienna stopped and glanced in her direction. “He said he was looking forward to it, she said over her shoulder. She kept walking as both of the girls
“What?” Jenna demanded, but Kaden was right, she was talking to Sylvia not her.
“No way! That lying linde b*tch!” Sylvia Lidl.
Sienna picked up the pace, but she heard the sound of them clambering up the steps to his office behind her and Kaden telling them he was busy to go away. A unile spread across her face as she sucked into the woods, ready to go for that run she’d put off earlier that morning.
