Chapter 4
Chapter 4
In the police station, my hands trembled uncontrollably as I held the test results.
Behind me, the police were still interrogating my parents and Jake about why they were forcing a pregnant woman to abort a supposedly healthy baby.
I looked up, feeling strangely detached from the scene around me.]
The officer noticed my distress and quickly tried to reassure me. “It’s okay. Whatever’s happening, we’ll make sure you’re protected.“]]
“Did you find anything concerning in the report?” she asked gently.[]
I gave a bitter smile and shook my
head.
When I met my mother’s disgusted gaze, she let out a contemptuous laugh. “What an ungrateful little tramp, calling the police on her own parents!“]
“One more verbal attack and you’re being detained,” the officer warned her.
Mom fell silent, but the hatred in her eyes didn’t diminish one bit.]
Yague memories of trauma from several months ago began creeping back into my consciousness.]
My body felt heavy with dread as I bit my lip hard and turned to the officer. “I’m sorry, I wasn’t thinking clearly. There actually is something wrong with the baby.”
“I apologize for wasting your time.“]}]
I bowed deeply to the officers, who all stared at me in confusion.[]
They couldn’t understand why seeing the test results had suddenly changed my position.[]
Having watched the surveillance footage, they knew something was seriously wrong with this report. “Did you see something in there that concerned you?“]]
“You can tell us. We’re here to help you,” one officer said.
Seeing their genuine desire to help made me feel even more ashamed as I lowered my head.[]
Sensing my distress, they didn’t push further, simply saying: “That’s all right. If you need anything in the future, please don’t hesitate to contact us.“[]
I bit my lip harder and nodded timidly.
The moment we left the police station, Dad slapped me across the face. Mom yanked my hair and pulled my ear close to her mouth, hissing that I was a worthless slut
Jake didn’t hit me, but his eyes were fixed on my belly with such hatred it seemed like he wanted to cut the baby out right then and there.[]
This time, I accepted their abuse without resistance.[]
Mom sneered, “So you finally realize what a disgusting whore you are? If I were you, I’d kill myself right now.”
Her palin crashed against my face, splitting my lip instantly.
The prolonged mental stress and physical abuse made my abdomen ache, but I no longer cared if this baby lived or died.[]
Even though I submitted to their abuse, they weren’t satisfied.]
Dad kicked my already weakened legs out from under me. As I collapsed to the ground, he raised his fist, ready to strike my belly.]
Suddenly someone shouted, “What the hell do you think you’re doing?!“]
How dare you treat a pregnant woman like this!”
Looking toward the voice, I realized the area outside the police station was crowded with journalists and onlookers.[]
Cameras were pointed at us from every direction]
My parents were forced to stop their assault
I laughed bitterly to myself–apparently the commotion at the hospital had attracted significant attention.
The man who had shouted was a reporter. He hurried over and helped me to my feet.[]
“Don’t worry,” he said kindly. “We’ll make sure justice is served. “[]
“Pregnant women deserve protection. If they try to hurt you again, the public won’t let them get away with it.“[]
I glanced up at him, but quickly averted my eyes when I noticed the cameras.[]
Behind the journalists stood dozens of bystanders.[]
They were all pointing and shouting at my parents and Jake.[]
“Have you no shame? You’re parents yourselves, yet you’re trying to force a pregnant woman to abort a healthy baby.“[]
“If you didn’t want a child, you should have spoken up before she got pregnant! Now you’re trying to abort it–the only one suffering is this poor woman!“[]
“Especially you, the husband–you’re absolutely despicable! Don’t you realize how much your wife must love you to want to have your child?“]
The crowd was growing increasingly agitated.[]
It looked like they might physically confront my family at any moment, yet strangely, my mother’s mouth twitched into a small smile.]
The male reporter asked me, “What did the police say?“[]
“The law might not protect you directly, but if you want a divorce or to sever family ties with them, we’ll definitely help you.“[]
As soon as he finished speaking, Mom gave a cold laugh. “My, aren’t you the righteous hero.“[]
The reporter glared at her. I may not be a hero, but I’ve got more conscience than an animal like your“[]
Mom smiled and walked toward him, holding out the test results.[]
My heart began pounding like a drum.[]
