Chapter 9
Marcus Gallegos, Cordell Huffman, and Duncan Austin were known as the three talents of Oldburn. Marcus was a
businessman, Cordell became a doctor, and Duncan joined the army. In terms of both appearance and ability, the three were top in their respective worlds. Moreover, they were close to each other.
Cordell was young, but his medical skills were outstanding. He could easily perform complicated operations and was known as the best surgeon.
“What happened to Marcus?” Cordell carried the medical kit and rushed into the Hope Mansion.
“Mr. Huffman, please follow me. Mr. Huffman is fine. Ms. Dennis has a fever.” The butler came up to Cordell.
“Ms. Dennis has a fever?” Cordell paused and asked.
Who was Ms. Dennis? Why did she have a fever?
The butler knocked gently on the door.
Sir, Mr. Huffman is here,” he said to Marcus.
The sound of footsteps came from inside the room. Marcus opened the door and came out.
“Marcus, you called me over in the middle of the night because Ms. Dennis has a fever? Be a normal person!” Cordell gnashed his teeth in dissatisfaction.
“Check on her.” Marcus ignored what Cordell said.
“I thought you were sick, so I ran the red light all the way here, but it turned out that you asked me here because a woman has a fever. What are you thinking? Who is that woman? Does she deserve to be an urgency?” Cordell raised his eyebrows thoughtfully.
“Go.” Getting used to Cordell’s sharp tongue, Marcus ignored him.
“Look, you’ve become inhumane because of a woman. My tires are worn down. I remember that you have a limited edition Ferrari…” Before Cordell finished speaking, he looked at Marcus with a smile.
“Take it if you like it.” Marcus knew that Cordell said it on purpose, but it was just a car, so it didn’t matter.
“Alright, I’ll go check on her now.” Cordell looked sloppy. “Hurry up and take a shower. A woman with a fever is sensitive to germs.”
Although Marcus knew that Cordell might be spouting nonsense again, to prevent Charlotte from being infected, Marcus nodded and left.
Cordell drove Marcus away. He pushed the door open and walked into the room as a serious guy instead of a playboy.
Marcus never liked women. Although his buddies often teased him, they understood that this was his protection for himself. After all, if he took a wrong step, he might fall into a deep abyss.
This was the first time Cordell had heard that Marcus had brought a woman to the Hope Mansion. It was also the first time that Marcus asked for his help because of a woman.
Marcus‘ concern was so obvious that everyone could feel it.
Cordell had to meet this woman. After all, he had seen countless women. He didn’t want an artless guy like Marcus to fall into a trap.
However, Cordell seemed to have forgotten how calm and confident Marcus was. Countless women came to him, but he never fell for them.
When Cordell saw the beautiful face of the woman lying on the bed, he opened his mouth wide.
It was Charlotte?
When Charlotte heard someone come in, she turned her head and saw Cordell. She was unhappy and touched her nose, “Where’s Marcus?”
“Hey, I was woken up by Marcus in the middle of the night to treat you yet you dislike me?” Cordell calmed down.
“Aren’t you engaged to Terry? Why are you in Marcus‘ bed?”
“Hey. You must be living in the past. I’m not engaged to Terry. Don’t give me an identity groundlessly.” Charlotte frowned unhappily.
“Oh. I went to Ocaep to attend the academic conference two days ago and just came back tonight. It seems that I’ve missed a good show.” Cordell looked at Charlotte with interest.
“Then go and find it out yourself. It’s interesting.” Charlotte didn’t bother to talk to Cordell and curled her lips.
Cordell and Charlotte knew each other. Not many people were in the upper circle of Old Even if they were not very
familiar with each other, they often met each other at various banquets.
Moreover, because of Charlotte’s relationship with Terry, she was mentioned a lot.
No matter how powerful the Gallegos Group was, Terry was just an illegitimate child. However, the eldest daughter of the Dennis family fell in love with him at first sight and fought with her family for a long time before getting the engagement banquet.
Cordell did not expect to see Charlotte at Hope Mansion on the day of the engagement party.
“Charlotte, let me take a look. Otherwise, I can’t explain myself to Marcus when he comes back.” Cordell opened up the medical kit.
Charlotte sat up with the quilt in her arms and shrugged. “Save it. I’m not ill.”
“You’re not sick? Then what are you doing?” Cordell looked at Charlotte in confusion.
“How would I know that Marcus would call you over? I just want him to be with me.” Charlotte leaned against the headboard said with confidence.
“Charlotte, please be reasonable. I didn’t want to come here, okay?” Cordell rolled his eyes and spread his hands.
“Don’t Marcus about my fake illness.” Charlotte bit her lip and was a little embarrassed.
“Why? Marcus and I are buddies. How can I ignore our relationship and deceive him because of you?” Cordell said seriously.
Charlotte rolled her eyes and propped her head up, looking innocent, “I wanted to introduce you to Natalia. Since you don’t want that, then forget it.”
“You know Natalia?” Cordell’s eyes lit up.
“We’re not familiar with each other yet.”
“Why are you saying that now that you don’t know each other?” Cordell cursed.
“We’re not familiar with each other now, but we’ll know each other soon. We’re in the same class, and it’s not difficult to get close to each other. But you…” Charlotte held back her words and looked at Cordell with a smile.
She was confident in taking care of Cordell.
Charlotte reincarnated, so she knew that Cordell, the playboy, was dazzled by Natalia when they accidentally met each other and was trying to pursue her.
Charlotte felt that as the woman who was going to become Marcus‘ wife, it was necessary to matchmake for Cordell to make
him fonder of her.
Cordell’s expression changed again and again.
Charlotte was somewhat familiar to him. The eldest daughter of the Dennis family was artless and kind. Such a simple- minded girl was completely different from Marcus. She couldn’t scheme against Marcus.
After thinking it through, Cordell no longer had any scruples, “Alright, considering your sincerity, I’ll tell Marcus a white lie. I won’t do it ever again.”
“Deal.”
But you have to promise to introduce Natalia to me.”
“Sure.”
The two reached an agreement. Charlotte lay down and pretend to be sick. Cordell rummaged through the medical kit and found a bottle of health care products.
Marcus finished the shower quickly. He changed into black pajamas. His hair wasn’t dried, and the waterdrop flowed down his neck and into his pajamas. Charlotte swallowed.
His charm was a disaster! Charlotte commented in her heart.
“How is she?” Marcus looked at Cordell and asked.
T
“It’s not a big deal. She just caught a cold. She just needs to take some medicine and have some rest.” Cordell said while packing up his things.
“I’m going back to catch up on my sleep. I’ve been working for 48 hours. I just got home but you asked me to come here. I’m so tired. I’ll be leaving!”
Cordell winked at Charlotte and turned to leave.
