Chapter 6%
“Cassy is very happy today. We took her to the amusement park.”}
Jude poured me a glass of water, his demeanor still gentle, but his actions were anything but.
He had no shame about his infidelity; to him, it was as if nothing had changed.
I couldn’t hold it in any longer.
“Jude, you’re completely out of control now. You and Cassy aren’t even going to school.” I paused for a moment.
“You don’t care about the students you teach, and disregarding Cassy’s education.“}
It wasn’t even the weekend, and the thought of my daughter being raised like this made my blood boil.
“Corinne, you’re too rigid,” he replied, a hint of annoyance in his voice. “Who says we have to only play on weekends? Besides, she’s only in second grade. What’s wrong with letting her have some fun?“}
“Do you realize how much extra burden you’ve put on Cassy’s teachers?” I shot back, my voice rising. “They tried reaching you dozens of times when I was unconscious, and you never answered. They almost called the police!”
“Jude, you’re not a child anymore. Don’t make others pay the price for your irresponsibility!“}
I was beyond furious now. “Let’s have a divorce.”
I grabbed the divorce papers from behind me and threw them in his face.}
Adele grinned at me, her eyes gleaming with provocation.
“Sign it quickly,” she sneered.}
Jude held the papers tightly, his gaze locking with mine. “Corinne, have you really thought this through?“}
“We didn’t have a choice,” he said, his voice calm, too calm. “She’s a strategist, and as a teacher, I couldn’t just let her fall apart.“}
The words stung, but his face–so carefully composed, like a gentleman–made it worse.}
In a fit of rage, I splashed my water on his face.
My daughter, who had been sitting quietly, suddenly dropped her phone and joined Adele in cursing me.>
Without thinking, I slapped my daughter in the face.
The shock in her eyes made my stomach twist. She started crying.}
“If you curse me one more time, I swear I’ll tear your mouth apart,” I hissed, my voice shaking with fury.
Later, when I got home from work, I packed my things, determined to leave.”
Jude stood behind me, leaning against the doorframe, his tall figure casting a long shadow. His expression was subdued, almost melancholy.”
“Adele and Cassy are out. I think we can have a proper conversation now.“}
“Corinne, stop making this worse, okay?” His voice was softer now. “Where are you going without me?“}
I ignored him, my focus solely on packing.”
As I rummaged through my suitcase, I finally found it–the ring from that year.
The ring he gave me wasn’t as beautiful as the one he’d given to Adele, but I had cherished it for ten years.
Now, it meant nothing.”
Without hesitation, I tossed it into the trash can next to me.
“Corinne!”
Jude’s voice was laced with anger.”
He turned, rummaging through the trash, pulling out the ring and staring at it in disbelief.
“You’re really going to break up with me and throw away the things I gave you?”
I met his gaze with a sneer. “Why are you pretending to care now?”
He paused, his face darkening.”
“Okay, I get it,” he muttered, his voice stiff with resignation.
We had once loved each other with such passion, but now, we are separating with a quiet finality.
Adele, of course, was overjoyed.!
She couldn’t wait to announce it. She posted on her social media with the caption: The one who isn’t loved is the mistress.
Even though I had blocked her, she still found ways to send me messages from other numbers.N
Sometimes, it was a photo of her and Jude sleeping together. Other times, it was of him bending down to tie her shoelaces, looking at her with adoration.”
But I had long since stopped feeling the sting.
I deleted the messages without a second thought.”
I had more important things to focus on–my life in medical research. I couldn’t afford to waste any more energy on these petty dramas.”
