The Woman Who Was Revenged 13

Adrian drove very quickly. The silhouettes outside the car window streaked by us in a flash. He gnashed his teeth together tightly, and his defined jaw was extremely tense the whole time. He was so nervous that his eyes were glued to the front no matter what

I wanted to tell Adrian that there was no need to drive this quickly. I wasn’t in a hurry to pass on, after all. The next thing I knew, Adrian slowed down the car. It was as if he could hear my thoughts

He said with a smile, We’re almost there, Ophelia. Are you scared?”

A trace of undefined emotions that I couldn’t decipher could be seen in his eyes

I shook my head. I wasn’t scared at all

Adrian’s lips curled into a smile. He replied happily, It’s good that you’re not scared at all, Ophelia. Pleasedon’t put yourself through this kind of torture ever again in your next life

Stunned, I mouthed back silently, Okay.”

Soon, the car slowed to a halt at the beach, but Adrian didn’t get out of the car for a while. He just gripped the steering wheel with trembling hands

We both knew that it’d spell our actual goodbye once we got out of the car, so I placed my hand on the back of Adrian’s hand. I knew that he couldn’t feel my touch, but I still wanted to do that

Adrian finally smiled at me. Let’s get out of the car.”

He removed the necklace from his neck. There was a small glass bottle hanging from the chain. My ashes were stored in that bottle

I followed Adrian down the sandy shore. He had his hands in his pockets, and a smile was playing on his lips

Having noticed that my body was becoming more and more transparent, I decided to stop next to a reef rock

This is the spot, then?”

I nodded

Alright. This is it.”

Adrian uncorked the glass bottle and dumped out what little ashes he could salvage from the crematorium onto his palm. Then, he used all of his strength to scatter it toward the

sea

He yelled, Go forth, Ophelia! You’re free now

A breeze blew past the shore at that moment. It helped bring my ashes toward the depths

of the sea

Adrian and I just smiled at each other. I was finally free
