Rebecca threw the rest of the sunflower seed shells on the floor. “I’m not qualified? And you are? Lillian Reed is?”
Susan snapped. “You don’t get to decide who’s qualified. Give me the money,”
Money again. That was always her bottom line,
Susan’s eyes burned with rage as she glared at Rebecca, nothing but disgust and anger in her gaze.
Rebecca laughed sarcastically. This is ridiculous.”

“Once the money’s in my pocket, it’s not coming out. As for this family…”
Speaking of the Reeds, Rebecca took a deep breath
“Say whatever you want. Even if you had the power, it wouldn’t be over me.”
Who gave her that power?
Whoever sided with someone like her would only end up screwed.
With that, Rebecca went into the kitchen, poured the medicine into a bowl, and went upstairs
with it.
When Susan saw her about to give the stuff to Jonathan Reed again, she yelled, “I told you not to give it to him! Are you deal?”
She screamed hysterically.
But Rebecca didn’t react at all. She went straight upstairs to Jonathan’s room.
He was asleep.
That was all he could do these days–no doctor, no hospital.
Rebecca set the bowl down on the nightstand with a loud bang, waking Jonathan.
He frowned at her. “What are you doing?”
Rebecca said coldly. “This is the last bowl of medicine I’ll ever bring you. Drink it or don’t, I don’t care. Whether your hand recovers or not, that’s up to fate.”

Jonathan’s eyes twitched, sensing something. “Where are you going?”
Rebecca replied flatly, “To take my son and get out of here.”

Jonathan never intended to marry me anyway. And even if he did….
Marrying a man like that would mean nothing but misery. A mother–in–law like Susan? That was hell.
I want to live a few more years, not die of stress.
Jonathan’s face darkened. He sat up, fully awake now. “What did you say? You’re leaving?”
Rebecca looked back at him.
Her lips curled into a mocking smile. “What, do you think I’m going to stay here and rot with you? Sorry, I’m not that kind of woman.”
Why waste myself on someone who was clearly a lost cause?
Am I asking for misery?
No thanks, my heart couldn’t take it.
Jonathan’s face turned red with anger when he heard the word “rot.”

What rot? Was that really how she saw the Reed family?
I had given her food, a place to live, everything, and she called that rot?
Rebecca replied, “The money? Oh, I used it to raise the child. Don’t tell me you want it back?”
Jonathan growled, “You!”

I knew what had happened. The reality was harsh but undeniable.

Jonathan yelled, “Come back! Give me my money!”
“In your dreams, loser!” Rebecca shouted at him.
Jonathan froze.
Rebecca left his room and went straight to Lillian’s.
As she walked in, Lillian instinctively shrank back. Perhaps it was because she was still too weak.
If Rebecca really decided to throw her hands up, she wouldn’t be able to defend herself.
Seeing the fear in her eyes, Rebecca scoffed. “Oh, cut the act. No one’s watching.”
“You—what do you want now?”
