My lawyer got in touch and said the video evidence I had gathered was solid.
The DNA test on the condoms from the trash confirmed they were from Holly and John.
“Ms. Carter, are you ready to file a lawsuit against your husband?”
“Yes.”
I did not hesitate for a second.

Chapter 6
After I hung up, I gazed at the pristine blue sky.
I was finally breaking free from John.
He did not come after me in the days that followed. He just aunted his lovey–dovey photos with Holly on social media.
Holly was just as bold, flaunting on her feed too.
They were practically one step away from sharing their bedroom escapades online.
However, when I saw it, I felt nothing.
I had moved on from John long ago.
His antics only made him look like a jerk to everyone else.
Meanwhile, I poured my heart into my art, sharing it online and gathering a following.
No more being cooped up in that tiny house year–round.
I had found my reason to keep going.
Then came the day of my college friend’s wedding. I was invited as a guest.
We were close, so I could not skip it. I picked out a pretty dress for the occasion.
To my surprise, John and Holly showed up too.
I did not think he would come since he was not really close to the couple.
However, there he was, his eyes lingering on me.
Holly came over, tugging him along with her.
“Yasmin, I heard that you filed a lawsuit against John. I figured you guys were practically already divorced, so I tagged along with him to the wedding,” Holly said, her smile beaming.
“You don’t mind, do you?”
“It’s fine by me.”
My voice was a whisper as I took my gift and headed off to find a friend.
John was on my heels, surprising me.
He snapped at me, “Yasmin, are you still holding a grudge?
“There’s no grudge. Wanting a divorce is just me being honest.
“John, why wouldn’t you want a divorce if you’re into Holly?” I shot back, glancing over my shoulder.
He was at a loss for words, caught off guard.
Seizing the moment, I made my escape.
The wedding ceremony kicked off not long after.
I found a quiet corner to sit in, but Holly and John ended up joining me.
“Yasmin, there was no room left over there, so we came to sit with you,” Holly explained, looking a bit sheepish.

“Oh, did John mention I’m expecting?” she added.
I was not shocked. Given their history, pregnancy seemed inevitable.
Holly being pregnant actually made my case for divorce stronger.
John’s face darkened. “Enough,” he growled.
His harsh tone made Holly shrink back, silent.
I just offered a wry smile and kept to myself.
As the bride and groom exchanged vows on stage, tears welled up in their eyes.
It took me back to my own wedding day with John, when I was the one in tears.
He had tenderly wiped them away, promising, “Yasmin, I’ll never be the reason for your tears again.”
However, over the past six years, I had shed enough tears for a lifetime.
It seemed John was reminiscing too, his eyes tinged with red.
Without a word, he moved closer and sat beside me.
“Yasmin…”
He reached for my hand, but I jerked away in an instant.
“Don’t touch me.
“You disgust me!”
His eyes narrowed in shock, rooted to the spot.
My words had cut him deep.
I did not say another word as I stood up and walked away.
If I had known he would show up today, I would not have attended.
