He did not even wait for my answer before he dashed out the door.
Staring at the home I had lived in for six years, I realized I had no reason to stay.
I left and tracked down Hank.
Just yesterday, he told me about an art teaching gig at an overseas academy.
I had not planned on taking it, but suddenly, leaving this city was all I could think about.
Hank was thrilled. “Awesome. I’ll let them know right away
“Yasmin, your art is incredible. The students will love you,” he said, his eyes shining with confidence.
I gave a small nod.
“I just need to sort out the divorce, and then I’m free to go.
“That’s cool,” he said, all smiles, and even suggested we grab dinner.

With no other plans, I agreed.
At the restaurant, I ran into John and Holly again.
John jumped to his feet the second he saw me.
“Yasmin, let me explain. Holly just got out of treatment, and I thought she could use a good meal. I didn’t want to upset you, so I didn’t say anything…”
“No need to explain,” I cut him off, my voice steady. “I’m nearly divorced from you, John. Your life is none of my business now.”
“Yasmin, don’t tell me you’re leaving John for some other dude,” Holly sneered, eyeing Hank with contempt.
That was the last straw for John. I could see the anger ignite in his eyes.
“Are you with this guy now?”
I did not even bother to answer him and just smacked Holly right across the face.
“People might think your mouth is a toilet from the way it reeks of sh*t! If you can’t say anything smart, shut it.”
“Ow! John, she slapped me!”
Holly’s shriek was like nails on a chalkboard.
I grinned at John. “Feeling vengeful? Go on. Try and hit me

John was fuming. I could almost see steam coming out of his ears.
I grabbed Hank’s arm without a second thought.

With that, Hank and I were out the door.
Behind us, John’s temper got the best of him, and a glass shattered.
The waiter was on us in a flash. “Sir, that’s a limited edition glass. That was worth $15,000!”
