“It’s just so weird,” I said, trying to laugh it off. “Bringing her boyfriend over to her god–brother’s place?”
Inside my chest, my heart was in a million pieces.
I had given up on John.
He looked awkward as he said, “Holly’s just a free spirit, you know. She’s gone abroad for school and all, unlike
you.
“You’ve always been here, so you’re a bit more… low–key.”
“Yeah, I guess.
“Go on and help Holly out. I’m gonna hit the sack.”
I was ice–cold with my reply.
John took the hint and bolted.
I heard him in the kitchen, yucking it up with Holly.

He probably just wanted to ease his own guilty conscience by talking to me.
I sat on the bed, staring at the wedding photo on the wall. John and I were so happy in that photo at Lagoon Beach.
He promised we would always be happy.
It turned out promises were worth nothing.
In the dead of night, I heard muffled buzzing from the spare room.

“John, you’re incredible,” she purred.

“I love that your wife’s next door. Talk about a thrill!”
My stomach flipped. I hunched over the trash can, retching
It was just so vile and revolting.
I sent the video to my lawyer.
I had found her today to take care of my divorce. She was very good at her job.
When I woke up the next day, Holly was gone, and John had breakfast waiting.

As I stepped out of the master bedroom, John wrapped his arms around me in a tight embrace and slipped a bracelet onto my wrist.
“I picked this up for you while I was away on business. I thought it looked nice.”
I glanced down at the bracelet, its green hue mocking me. I was almost funny.
Every time John messed up, he would turn on the charm or buy some cheap bauble to win me over.
I used to be thrilled by it, treasuring each trinket.
However, I later found out the truth. All those ‘gifts‘ were just promotional freebies he got while shopping for Holly.
“John, I think we should get a divorce,” I murmured.
His face went pale, and his grip loosened.
w–what did you just say?”
