Chapter 5
Finn rushed forward with a trembling voice and quickly grabbed his mother’s hand, separating us. He looked utterly confused.
The old lady stood with her hands on her hips, pointing at me and cursing, “It’s her! Shameless, no manners at all! Today, I’m going to teach her a lesson her parents. clearly didn’t! No respect for elders! I just took her seat and she called the police on me! Disgraceful!”
“Look at her, all dressed up like that. Who knows what shady business she’s involved in? If she were my granddaughter, I’d have beaten her to death by now!” The old lady was so absorbed in her rant that she didn’t notice her son growing paler by the minute.
Finn tightened his grip on his mother’s arm, forcing her to stop. “Mom, what are you saying? I don’t understand any of this.”

The old lady spat on the ground. “I don’t care if you understand or not. She has to pay me!”
My father stepped forward, shielding me and said calmly, “So, it was your mom who hurt my daughter?”
Finn looked between his mother and me, finally piecing it all together. He hurriedly tried to explain that it was all a misunderstanding.
After hearing my father’s words, Mrs. Zola looked at me and my father in turn. Then he pursed his lips and lectured, “Is this girl your daughter?”
She sized me up and down, then rolled her eyes. “This child has no respect for the elderly. I was simply sitting in her seat on the high–speed train back, but look at her, she resorts to violence right away.”
“Who would dare marry her when she gets older? If she were my child, I would have killed her at birth. Listen to me. I’ve been

through more than you could ever imagine.”
“Look at the way she beat my old bones. It just so happened that we met today and we are all acquaintances, so I won’t ask for
more. Just give me $7000 for medical expenses and let this matter be over.”
After hearing her words, I couldn’t help but burst out laughing. Did she say that I beat her? How dare she demand $7000 in
medical expenses from my family? She really had no shame.
The only beating I have ever received was from this old lady. After that, I just slapped her back subconsciously, which was much lighter than the one she hit me.
The atmosphere in the room was ice–cold, but she didn’t seem to notice. Finn had
come this time to build a good relationship with my father, hoping that our family would continue to use their company as
our supplier next year. Unexpectedly, this incident occurred.

Sweat beaded on Finn’s forehead as he hurriedly covered the old lady’s mouth, apologizing profusely to my father and promising to make amends later.
The old lady refused to leave, still trying to grab my arm. “Pay me! No one’s leaving until I get my money!”
Despite Finn’s repeated attempts to calm. her down, she didn’t budge until he finally lost his temper. “Enough! Stop
embarrassing yourself in public! Look around and see whose house this is!”
Only when she saw that Finn was genuinely angry did she finally shut up.
Finn gave me an apologetic smile. “I’m sorry, Yvonne. I didn’t realize this was such a misunderstanding. We’re family, after all. I’ve heard about what happened. My mom. was the wrong one and I apologize for
that.”
My father waved his hand dismissively. “There’s no need for you to apologize to the

child.”
Then he turned to me and I nodded, looking at the pale–faced woman across from me. “Dad, it was her who hit me.”
Finn left with his mother, taking with them the pot of soup I had just made in the kitchen.
After finally recovering from my injuries, I went out with friends to relax.
I didn’t expect to run into Mrs. Zola again. As soon as I got off the bus, I saw her walking straight toward us. Her disheveled hair and pale face were a far cry from the confident woman I had met on the train.
I didn’t recognize her at the beginning, but when she came closer and suddenly knelt before me, I realized who she was. Her kneeling attracted everyone’s attention.
I quickly bent down to help her up, but she began crying on the ground. “I didn’t recognize your greatness. I shouldn’t have taken your seat. If you’re angry, take it out

on me. What did my son do wrong?”
“I’m begging you, please! You’re not trying to make my whole family suffer, are you? It’s my fault, I’m sorry. I’ll bow to you. Please, just give us a way to survive!” She cried as she made to bow her head to the ground.
I was stunned. What was going on?
People were gathering around, taking videos and pointing at us. Feeling anxious, I glanced around and helped her up quickly. “Explain yourself. What do you mean I want your family dead?”
I was getting angry. What did Mrs. Zola mean by saying I wanted her whole family to die? It felt more like she wanted the same for mine!
