Chapter 276 Fanning The Flames
As soon as these words were spoken, they instantly stirred up a wave of commotion at the scene.
In the world of Jexburgh’s high society, Waverly was the first to haggle in jewelry stores.
Does she think this is a flea market or something? Is she seriously haggling with the store manager?
Margaret was so upset that she was nearly at a loss for words.
Waverly, with her unsophisticated demeanor, was constantly pushing her limits in the most appalling ways.
After bargaining, Waverly turned to Margaret and complained, “This store is clearly a rip–off, Mom! Don’t let them fool you! I bet this necklace is probably worth around three hundred million at most! I’ll haggle with them and buy it for you!”
“You want them to reduce the price from three billion down to three hundred million? Waverly, do you think you’re some sort of miracle worker?” Margaret was livid.
Casimir said with a stern expression, “Forget about this necklace, Mom. Let’s pick something else instead!”
“That’s right, Ms. Goodridge. This store does not permit haggling. However, if you become a VIP member of our store, we could give you a one percent discount! However, to become a VIP member of our shop, you would have needed to accumulate a total spending of five hundred million. Perhaps you might consider looking at our other options? We have countless pieces of more affordably priced jewelry available. If none of those catch your fancy, we also offer custom orders. Our store always puts the customer first,” said the store manager while suppressing a smile.
“What are you saying? Just moments ago, my dear sister declared that she’d buy the Blue Arctic Star no matter the price. If she’s bold enough to say that, how could she possibly be out of money? Even if she doesn’t have the money, her family does! It’s just three billion. How could the Goodridge family not be able to afford it?” Raylee chimed in from the side.
Upon hearing these words, Margaret’s complexion improved slightly. She then asked, “Wavy, didn’t you just mention that your family gave their consent for you to buy me such an expensive piece of jewelry? Were you joking, or were you serious about that?”
Waverly’s face was filled with an indescribable turmoil.
This was a fatal question for her.
If she said it was a joke, Margaret would undoubtedly feel uncomfortable and think that the Goodridge family didn’t regard. her with any importance.
If she said she was serious, then the Goodridge family would have to spend three billion for her to buy a necklace as a gift.
She really wasn’t sure if they would cough up that much money over a gift.
Samuel and Harriet certainly couldn’t afford to, but Alaric was capable of doing so.
Raylee continued to fan the flames by saying, “Mrs. Sutherland, just a while ago, my sister clearly stated in front of everyone that the Goodridge family has agreed to her gifting you this necklace. Wouldn’t changing their minds now be blatantly disrespecting the reputation of the Sutherland family? As such, you can rest assured, the Goodridge family always follows through on their promises!”
Waverly recalled the moment where she had boldly made that promise.
Whatever confidence she had a moment ago had all turned into embarrassment.
She glared at Raylee with a resentful expression as she said,.
“You never really treated me as your sister before, and yet, you keep addressing me as your sister right now. Are you seeking reconciliation or something? In order to show your sincerity, how about this you purchase this necklace for three billion and give it to Mrs. Sutherland on my behalf?”
With a hurried wave of her hand and shake of her head, Raylee said, “There are many ways to show sincerity. Using money to do so is simply crass! Besides, Mrs. Sutherland is going to be your mother–in–law. It’s not my place to pay for her birthday gift, right? I’ve heard of outsourcing projects in this day and age, but outsourcing sincerity? Now, that’s a new one!”

The onlookers let out a soft wave of chuckles.
Everyone was amused by Raylee’s comments about outsourcing sincerity.
Margaret’s face flushed with embarrassment once again. She then huffed and said, “Give me a straight answer, Waverly! Are you able to buy that necklace for me or not? It’s fine if you can’t. I’m not a greedy person, I wouldn’t force a young person like you to buy me expensive gifts. What infuriated me was your confidence, boldly making promises in front of everyone, only to fall short in the end. Throughout all these years of being married into the Sutherland family, no one has ever dared to make a fool of me like this!”
Waverly was on the verge of tears when she saw how infuriated Margaret was.
Casimir advised, “Since it was your parents who agreed to it, why don’t you go and ask them? There’s no need to force it if it’s not possible.”
Waverly nodded, promptly moving to the side to make a phone call.
She even narrated the sequence of events in the family group chat.
