Chapter 348 Confessing To Her
Raylee had been coughing for quite some time.
She almost coughed her guts out.
During the process, she even coughed up a bit of blood.
Her already restless heart grew even more agitated.
The masked man had initially intended to keep things hidden, but he could only get away with with hiding the truth so many times.
Raylee was no fool, so she would have definitely noticed even if he didn’t say anything.
Rather than letting her overthink aimlessly, it was better to give her a clear understanding.
In the end, he confessed, “Ray–Ray, your medical condition is indeed not promising. The numerous human experiments you were subjected to in District Nine Prison have inflicted unforeseeable damage to your body. Although the treatments over the past few months seemed to have improved your health a bit, the complications you’re suffering from still persist. If they flare up, it could be life–threatening.”
He truthfully shared a portion of the situation with her, but he didn’t divulge that she had less than five months left to live.
“Is it that serious?” Raylee was taken aback, but she quickly regained her composure.
Her mental fortitude was not as weak as the masked man had thought.
People who have been through the devil’s prison have escaped from the clutches of death countless times.
Her perspective on life and death had become quite indifferent.
“So how should the complications left behind by such an experiment be treated?” she asked calmly..
The masked man patiently replied, “It’s not necessarily hard, but it’s not exactly simple either. I need to obtain the experimental data on you from that time. Then, we can have the medical team develop a targeted drug. This way, your chances of recovery would be significantly high.”
Raylee frowned, suggesting, “Why not search in District Nine Prison? Surely, they’ll have the records there.”
“I’ve searched everywhere that needed to be searched. I even went as far as detaining the Epean professor who conducted those experiments on you back then.”
Speaking of this matter, the masked man was seething with anger.
“He’s a madman. I had exhausted every method of interrogation, yet he did not utter a single word about the experimental data. There was nothing I could do to get through to him. Because of this lunatic, Imade several trips to East Aploth and even tried to get the information out of him myself. But, I couldn’t get him to spill a word.”
“Those few trips you made to East Aploth, were they all for this?” Raylee was astounded.
The masked man gently caressed her cheek with his coarse yet slender fingers. “What else did you think? Did you really believe I was there for business? What business could possibly be more important than you? Companionship is the deepest declaration of love, and I wish I could spend every moment right by your side.”
Tears welled up in Raylee’s eyes, “I thought you were…”
The masked man found himself nonplussed. “Having an affair with another woman? Silly girl, can’t you think better of me? Do I strike you as someone fickle?”

name? It’s not my fault for letting my imagination run wild; you didn’t explain things clearly.”
The masked man shook his head helplessly.
Finished
“Angela is a doctor and also a good friend of mine. She has resided in East Aploth for many years, so I entrusted her with many of my affairs in that part of the world.”
“Really?”
“When have I ever lied to you? Besides, would I need to lie about such a trivial matter?” The masked man’s tone grew more serious as he continued, “I’ve just come to realize that you’re such a hopeless romantic. You’re teetering on the brink of ill health, yet you’re still concerned about whether or not I have other women in my life.”
Raylee shrugged nonchalantly. “Don’t worry about me; I’m more composed than you might think. It can’t be helped. Every day in District Nine Prison, I lived as if I wouldn’t see the sun rise the next day. Ultimately, you’ve done what you can, and that’s all that matters. Whether I survive or not, it’s all in the hands of fate.”
“Don’t try to comfort me. I’ll lose my mind if you don’t survive. Therefore, I must get the experimental data as soon as possible!” the masked man asserted firmly.
“Who’s comforting you?” Raylee bit her lip, her voice choked with emotion as she continued, “Had it not been for you, I would have died six months ago on that rainy day. Every day I’m alive now, is a day I’ve gained. Besides, we haven’t known each other for long, just a little over half a year. Just consider me as a passerby in-”
The masked man coldly interrupted, saying, “Who told you that we’ve only known each other for such a short time?”
