Kaylee stood at the entrance, unnoticed by everyone else.
Victor stood with his hands behind his back, his deep–set features eerily similar to Jeremiah’s. His sharp gaze suddenly darkened as he turned toward Jeremiah.
Then, he spoke. “Alaric, my son was reckless–he acted impulsively and hurt your son. I ask you, as an elder, to overlook the mistakes of the younger generation and forgive him.”

Alaric let out a heavy huff. “An accident? With so many people watching, how could it be an accident?”

Alaric’s brows furrowed, his voice sharp, “Hmph! My only son was nearly killed, and you think an apology and some compensation will settle this? What do you take the Goodridge family for?”
“A bullet to the shoulder isn’t life–threatening. A few days of rest and he’ll recover without complications.”
Alaric’s expression remained cold. “He was lucky. The shot only hit his shoulder. What if it had been worse? Today, your son shoots mine in public–what’s stopping him from pulling the trigger again tomorrow? Victor, you and I are both fathers. It my son shot yours, would you just let it go?”
Standing at the doorway, hearing Alaric fiercely defend Samuel, Kaylee felt a deep, wrenching sorrow. Her heart plummeted. as if it had been shattered into a million pieces. She wanted to cry–but not a single tear came.
