Chapter 50 Lingering Feelings
“Do you still have lingering feelings for that fake? She’s just a housekeeper’s daughter pretending to be more! What could possibly be so captivating about her?”
“If you don’t shut up. I’m pulling my investment from your company!” Casimir said, his face taut, an intense and intimidating aura emanating from him.
“Wow! You’re actually threatening me with pulling your investment, just for this fake?” Shanice was so furious she could hardly contain herself, yet she dared not utter another word.
While they were busy arguing. Raylee had already put on her shoe.
She hadn’t expected that Casimir would argue with Shanice for her sake.
Such blatant favoritism, if it had occurred in the past, would have certainly left her flabbergasted, even overjoyed to the point of feeling like she could fly.
But now, she didn’t experience the slightest emotional fluctuation.
Even so, she couldn’t comprehend what was going on in Casimir’s mind, why he had suddenly become so tender toward her.
Could it really be as Shanice suggested, that there were lingering feelings?
However he had never harbored feelings for her in the past, so where did this lingering affection come from?
Unable to make sense of the situation, she simply stopped pondering. Turning around, she limped away.
“Get in my car. You’ve hurt your foot, so I’m taking you to the hospital!” Casimir rushed over, grabbing
“Caz, if you’re taking Raylee to the hospital, then what about me?” Waverly couldn’t hold back any longer. She rushed forward to confront him.

She had gone to great lengths to get a date with Casimir, using Christmas as a pretext. But then, Raylee swooped in and stole her thunder. How could she possibly accept this?
“Your sister is hurt, and I need to take her to the hospital. I might not make it to the Christmas dinner, so you should go on your own!”
Casimir didn’t even spare her a glance, his attention entirely focused on Raylee.
Tears welled up in Waverly’s eyes, a clear sign of her feeling wronged.
Caz, how could you treat me like this? You’ve never spent time with me. I finally got you out on a date, yet you’re running off with my sister instead. Im your fiancée-
Casimir furrowed his brows deeply, cutting her off mid–sentence.
“Waverly, your sister is hurt. Can’t you see that? I’m just accompanying her to the hospital, not taking her on a sightseeing trip. Speaking of which, it’s quite peculiar. You’re always going on about how much you care for Raylee. Yet now that she’s injured, you don’t seem to show any concern. Instead, you’re here sulking?”
Waverly was rendered speechless by the criticism.
Right, how could she have been so impulsive!
The persona she had crafted around Casimir was always one of understanding and gentle consideration, so how did it siddenly morph into that of a hysterical woman?
“There’s a hospital just up ahead. I can get there by myself, so you all carry on with your business. Don’t involve me. After all, I don’t want to be labelled as a vixen.”
Raylee spoke with an air of indifference.

Truly not wanting to get entangled with them any further, she gritted her teeth against the pain and headed toward the hospital
Casimir wanted to follow, but when he glanced at Waverly beside him, his feet felt as if they were glued to the ground, too heavy to take the next step.
Indeed, his current fiancée was Waverly, yet he showed such concern for his ex–fiancée right in front of her.
Was he even a man?
Moreover, his excessive concern for Raylee would cause her to be unnecessarily labelled as a homewrecker or vixen. It would bring her pressure rather than genuine care.
Watching the solitary silhouette of Raylee, Casimir felt waves of heartache washing over him.
Even though he had been so attentive to her, she never once cracked a smile. The once cheerful and optimistic Raylee had completely vanished.
Right now, she was akin to a wounded puppy, cruelly mistreated and left alone to bear the pain of her injuries.
Waverly had already regained her composure. Her voice was laced with apology as she said, “Caz, I was too headstrong. I shouldn’t have gotten angry with Raylee. Let’s take her to the hospital together! Considering that she and you were childhood friends, and with so many years of shared history, not to mention the past engagement, it’s only natural for you to care about her. I was the one being insensitive.”
As he gazed at Waverly, who was being sensible and well–behaved, a hint of tenderness crept into Casimir’s eyes.
“Let bygones be bygones, Waverly. You just need to understand that the woman I intend to marry in the future is you.”
Waverly was so moved that tears streamed down her face.
She extended her arms, intending to throw herself into Casimir’s embrace, but he gently pushed her away.
“I need to make a phone call.”
He pulled out his phone and dialed Percival’s number. “Percival, head to Gracewell Hospital on Rainbow Springs Road right. now. I need you to… treat Raylee’s foot. She’s injured.”
In a tone of sarcastic awe, Percival said, “Mr. Sutherland, are you seriously heading down the path of being a simp?”
Before Casimir could lose his temper, Percival quickly added, “All right, all right, I’m on my way now. Here I am, a renowned medical expert known far and wide, yet at your beck and call. Ah, such is my turbulent life!”
Beside Casimir Waverly’s face had turned green with envy.
She, of course, knew who Percival was. To her surprise, Casimir had actually arranged for such arenowned expert to personally treat Raylee.
