Chapter 76 Their First And Last Date
“Grandma’s right.” Raylee acknowledged. “I’m soon to be married to Jeremiah. He will be there to protect me, I don’t need you!”
“Are you sure he can protect you, and not harm you?” Casimir asked with a serious expression.
“Since grandma is here. I might as well speak frankly. It’s not too late for you to ask grandma to call off your engagement.. That guy isn’t worth marrying, he’s no good!”
“Jeremiah is no good?” Vera fretted incessantly.
What’s going on? When your mom introduced him, she mentioned that despite being an illegitimate child, he’s a decent guy. Among the privileged, he’s considered to be exceptionally capable.”
“Grandma, do you know, he-”
Before Casimir could finish, he was abruptly cut off by Raylee’s cold voice.
Mr. Sutherland, could you please refrain from spouting nonsense in front of my grandmother? Who I marry is none of your business. If there’s nothing else, you should leave. My grandmother just woke up and needs to rest.”
“Fine, you think I’m spouting nonsense? There will come a day when you’ll regret this!” Annoyed, Casimir stormed off.
Vera watched his angry departure, expressing her worry.
“It doesn’t seem like Casimir was just spouting nonsense. If that Jeremiah truly isn’t a good person, Ray–Ray, you better call off this wedding sooner rather than later.”
Raylee shook her head “Grandma, didn’t you
notice
that Casimir had ulterior motives?”
“I did. Casimir stili has lingering feelings for you. Vera sighed deeply. “It’s really the irony of fate! If he had shown such enthusiasm four years ago and had the wedding sooner, Waverly wouldn’t stand a chance anymore.”
Seven days later,
Vera’s health had improved, and Raylee’s injuries had mostly healed. Together, they returned to Goodridge Manor.
Kaylee managed to get in touch with Jeremiah and they agreed to go hiking together at Whitehorn Mountain in Snowdale the following day.
Carly in the morning, Jeremiah arrived at Goodridge Manor to pick her up, presenting her with a bouquet of flowers.
The formal demeanor took Raylee by surprise, leaving her feeling unexpectedly cherished.
After unexpectedly missing last Christmas, the two had barely kept in touch.
After several days of hesitation and inner turmoil, Kaylee ultimately decided not to tell him about the psychiatric hospital.
She could have sought his support, and she believed that he would protect her.
Just like the last time by the poolside, he showed no mercy and shot Samuel.
But she didn’t want to become arrogant due to his affection. They weren’t officially marries yet, and she didn’t want to cause him too muc!: trouble.
Another crucial aspect was that Jeremiah, the man in question, had a tendency to act in extremes. She didn’t want to owe him too many favors, especially when she didn’t fully understand him yet.
Upon witnessing the scene of Jeremiah presenting Raylee flowers in the courtyard. Vera’s mood had significantly brightened.
“Wilright, all right, I must admit, I du envy you young ques, being able to indulge in such sweet romance. Go on, have fun, don’t worry about this old lady here.”

“Grandma, I’ll bring your favorite scones back from Heritage Bakery,” Raylee announced, giving Vera a kiss on the cheek before she took her leave with Jeremiah.
As Jeremiah reached the doorway, he suddenly shot a sidelong glance at Raylee–a look heavy with meaning. His handsome face carried a chilling, ominous coldness.
“What’s wrong?” asked Raylee.
“It’s nothing.” In an instant. Jeremiah regained his usual demeanor. His rosy lips curved into a warm smile.
“Ray–Ray, climbing a mountain takes a lot of energy–think you can handle it? This is our first official date, and I suggested hiking, but I wasn’t sure if it was the right choice. If you’re not up for it, we could catch a movie or go to a concert instead
Raylee shook her head.
“Hiking is no issue for me. In fact, I’ve been wanting to go to Whitehorn Mountain. Halfway up its slopes, there’s an ancient mural that’s been passed down through generations. I visited once, four years ago, but unfortunately the weather was windy and rainy that day, so I didn’t get a clear view.”
As she spoke, a shadow fell over Raylee’s face. “By the time I wanted to go again,” she said, “I was already behind bars.”
“All right, let’s go right now!”
The distance e from lexburgh to Whitehorn Mountain wasn’t too far, it was a two–hour drive.
Jeremiah took it upon himself to be the driver, heading toward what was, for both of them, their first official date.
It was also their last date…
The sun had risen.
The light pierced through the cold, illuminating the interior of the carriage, making it feel cozy and warm.
Kaylee sat in Jeremiah’s car, her gaze fixed on the ever–changing scenery outside the window. She reveled in the gentle breeze brushing against her face, her mood was rather contented.
Suddenly, an off–road vehicle roared past.
Unsure if it was merely an illusion, Raylee actually felt that the person driving bore a striking resemblance to Casimir.
She furrowed her brows. She was on a date with Jeremiah right now, yet she was still thinking about Casimir. She must be sick, and not just a little.
The two of them had just arrived at the foot of Whitehorn Mountain when a luxurious off–road vehicle also came to a halt.
Samuel and Waverly, along with Casimir and his sister Shanice, stepped out of the off–road vehicle.
