Chapter 9 The Truth
Upon seeing her savior arrive, Waverly, who had been in a daze, suddenly burst into tears, the very picture of distress and injustice.
“Waverly, don’t worry. I’m here to rescue you!”
Samuel immediately pulled Waverly into his embrace, gently soothing her by patting her back.
With his piercing black eyes, he glared at Raylee as if he could bore a hole in her face with his intense gaze.
Mindy, covering her swollen face, played the victim first. “Samuel, you saw the video I sent you just now, didn’t you? Raylee had been persistently blaming Wavy in the private room. She held a grudge against Wavy, which led her to push Wavy down the stairs! This wicked woman nearly killed Wavy, and that wasn’t all, she even had the audacity to hit me! Just look at what she’s done to my face!”
Waverly was sobbing so hard that she couldn’t catch her breath, tears streaming down her face.
“I don’t blame Raylee for pushing me, but..” she stammered. “But she shouldn’t have hit anyone! Mindy is my best friend, and hitting her felt like hitting me. It’s so heartbreaking!”
Her pitiful crying, coupled with her words, painted Raylee as the guilty party.
Raylee looked at the group with a cool gaze.
In stark contrast to the frantic accusations from Mindy and Waverly, she maintained an unsettling calmness.
Samuel’s expression turned somber as he questioned, “Is that true? Raylee, did you try to harm Wavy? I demand the truth from you!
“Do you believe me if I say no? I know you won’t, so speaking a hundred truths holds no meaning.” Raylee responded. Her tone, a blend of nonchalance and cool composure, sent a chill down Samuel’s spine.
On the very first day of her release from prison, Raylee found herself reliving the nightmare from four years ago. Once again, she was wrongfully accused and set up by those around her.

She then turned her gaze to Samuel, her eyes gleaming with a hint of contempt for him. “Believe it or not, I’m only going to clarify this once. Your dear sister fell down the stairs, and it was me, quick on my feet, who acted as a human cushion to save her! If you don’t believe me, Mr. Goodridge, the wound on my head serves as proof, and so does the surveillance above your head! Four years ago, you forced me into submission, but four years later, I won’t give you another chance to falsely accuse or hurt me!”
After she finished speaking, she turned around and left.

Her resolute figure was like a gust of wind, leaving without a trace of attachment.

His heart felt as if it was being gradually torn apart by a sharp blade, filled with pain and fear.
He could distinctly feel that he was gradually losing the sister with whom he had shared his life for eighteen years.

Mindy nervously retorted, “I… I didn’t falsely accuse her. I just misjudged the situation. The lighting was dim at that time, and Raylee and Wavy were having a heated argument inside the private room. You saw the video too, didn’t you? It’s only natural that I misunderstood”
Samuel, showing no mercy, exposed her lies. “If it was just a misunderstanding, why did you erase the surveillance footage? You’re clearly trying to frame Raylee! There’s video evidence that you twisted the facts to suit your narrative. You knew very well that Raylee was working there, yet you specifically requested her to serve in your private room. What were your intentions? Raylee is innocent in the entire matter. She even saved Waverly. What were your intentions when you targeted her? Was this your own idea, or did Waverly ask you to do it?”
*Samuel, are you doubting me?” Waverly rushed out from the ward, her eyes red from crying.
With a tone of frustration, Samuel chided, “Waverly, I’m not blaming anyone. In this matter, I’m only siding with what’s right, not who I’m close to! You were the one involved. Don’t you know whether Raylee pushed you down the stairs or not?”
Waverly, sobbing so hard she could hardly catch her breath, explained, “I lost my footing and fell. In the shock of the moment, I saw Raylee tumbling down with me and assumed she pushed me. Samuel, how could you doubt me! I’m so upset. I don’t hold any grudge against Raylee. Why would I falsely accuse her?”
Mindy took the responsibility upon herself. “Mr. Goodridge, it was solely my idea to erase the surveillance footage! And it was also my
decision alone to have Raylee serve in the private room. It has nothing to do with Wavy! I just can’t stand Raylee; I hate how she treats Wavy with such disdain. So, Mr. Goodridge, if you must blame someone, blame me alone!”
Waverly hurriedly defended her friend. “Mindy didn’t do it on purpose. You can’t blame her, Samuel. If you need to hold someone accountable, let it be me!”
Watching the two defend each other, Samuel let out a deep sigh.
