Samuel was stunned by the question. He opened his mouth.
But what was he going to say? Was he going to say that he only realized his feelings after she left and wanted to mend things with her?
As for Yelena, he could chase her away after she gave birth. In any case, they had never collected their marriage certificate.
He gulped and stared at the woman standing behind the two men.
It had only been half a year since they last met, but her dull eyes were already full of life. It seemed like she lived a much better life than when she was at the Foster family.
“Melea, I’m sorry. I should never have treated you like that.”
“I thought that I didn’t like you, but after you left, I finally realized that you’re the one I really like. Yelena was just a tool for me to make you mad. Could you give me another chance?”
He was like a husband who had finally realized that he had done wrong by his wife for years and was asking for forgiveness.
Unfortunately, Melea was not a wife who was waiting for her husband to repent.
While Melea could tell he was remorseful, all she could feel in her heart was mockery.
“Aren’t you the one who said that you’re only treating me as your sister?
“You’re the one who said that I shouldn’t have such dirty thoughts about you and that if we were in a relationship and were exposed, we would bring shame to the Foster family. You used Yelena as a tool to make me angry and leave you, and you got your wish, didn’t you? You’re the one who brought about all this, and you’re saying you’re regretting it? Samuel, aren’t you being too idealistic?”
Her words made Samuel’s hands tremble.
In the past, he had just wanted to nip Melea’s love in the bud. That was why he had said those cruel words without regard to the cost.
Melea thought that she no longer cared about those things in the past, but when she saw Samuel again and heard the regret in his voice, the memories of all that had transpired rushed to the forefront of her mind again, even though she had buried them in the deep recesses within her head.
