everyone from their college thought that Evelyn had gotten an abortion because of Sean. They were all under the impression that Evelyn was a really nice girl who was fiercely loyal to her lover. That was the reason why Sean’s friends had said those things in the ward that day.
However, only Sean knew that he had only ever seen Evelyn as his friend’s girlfriend. He had no other special feelings foAlmost r her.
He ignored Evelyn and proceeded to get discharged so that he could go home. He could not wait to see
- me.
Yet, when Sean opened the door to the house and called for me as he always did, what greeted him was dead silence. He looked at the empty house. “There was not a single trace of my existence left in that
space.
Half of our wedding photos, the one that had me in it, was cut off. My toothbrush, clothes, accessories, and bags were all gone. Even my slippers were missing from their usual spot.
A document and a piece of paper were left on the coffee table. Sean picked them up with shaky hands.
The words “Application to join the work for medical humanitarian assistance” could be seen on the document. On the other hand, a message was written on the piece of paper.
“Sean, I wish you happiness for the rest of your life.”

Chapter 6
My name was signed at the bottom of the note.
Sean could not believe what was happening. He called out my name repeatedly in his stubbornness. Still, there was no reply.
Suddenly, he remembered that I had gotten him a new insurance policy. He figured there was no way would leave him behind to join the work of medical humanitarian assistance with how much I loved him.
Then, he recalled how he had not seen any terms related to insurance on the document that day. Instead, he remembered seeing the word “settlement“…
I
Sean wanted to read the document carefully at the time. However, he was somehow interrupted by Evelyn. He felt panic rising within him.
He searched almost everywhere in his house for the document that detailed the insurance policy. Instead of locating that document, he ended up finding a divorce settlement agreement.
The document even had his signature on it. The date that the document was drafted was the 13th of January 2025.
That was more than a month ago. After looking at it a few more times, Sean finally remembered what those numbers were.
That day was the day after my birthday.
On my birthday, I, who usually did not wear any makeup, applied light makeup on my face. I looked beautiful.
I said, “Sean, it’s my birthday today. I want to eat some cake. Can we go and get some?”
Frankly, Sean had not attached much significance to celebrating birthdays. Moreover, Evelyn had fallen sick at the time. She was pretty much alone in this city and had no other friends, except for Sean.
Besides, it was just one birthday celebration. If we could not do it this time, we could always do it next year. Sean did not see any issues with that.
As for the time he celebrated Evelyn’s birthday, he only did it for Nigel’s sake. Nigel would celebrate Evelyn’s birthday every year in the past.
Sean felt that he had failed to keep his promise to Nigel since Evelyn was eventually forced to get an abortion, which also brought irreversible damage to her health.
It was precisely because of his guilt that Sean would subconsciously try to make it up to Evelyn in any way he could.
Sean did not expect that it was because of this minor issue, which he felt was not even that important, that got me acting on the promise I once made.
I silently and literally disappeared from Sean’s world.
