“What’s the point of you regretting things and acting like you’re sorry now? You know better than anyone else how you’ve treated Maisie recently.
“You’ve scorned and demeaned Maisie in front of all those people at the restaurant. You even called her spiteful while defending your mistress.
“How could you even bring yourself to come here and ask for Maisie’s whereabouts now? Maisie was right this time. There’s no way you’ll ever be able to find her.”
Sean held onto the door frame and tried to seek more answers from Celine. However, Celine contacted the security guards working for their residential area and had Sean thrown out of the place.
With a concerned look on her face, Evelyn helped Sean to his feet.
“Dr. Chandler, why are you doing this to yourself? Maisie’s gone now. You should probably let her go and look at the people around you.”
Sean froze for a second. Then, he directed his gaze to Evelyn.
“The people around me? Who? You? Do you honestly think you have what it takes to replace her? You’ll never be able to compare to Maisie.”
Evelyn’s face turned pale. It would have been better if Sean had yelled at her to vent his frustrations. Sadly, the calm look in his eyes and his flat tone only made Evelyn realize that Sean had not once felt attracted to her in any way.
Sean pulled his hand away and told Evelyn the truth straightforwardly, “Evelyn Summerton, I would not even spare you a single glance if it weren’t because of Nigel.
“For six years, everyone thought that I was the father of your unborn child. For you, I let Maisie down time and time again. Seriously, I’ve had enough.
“Let’s pretend that we don’t know each other from now on. As for Nigel, I owe him my life. However, I’ve made up my mind now. I shouldn’t repay his kindness through you.”
Evelyn stood rooted to the spot, whereas Sean drove off with a woeful expression on his face.
