For some reason, tears kept streaming from my eyes.
He reached his hand and lightly brushed his finger against the corners of my eye. His eyes were smiling. “I’m… I’m really happy seeing you cry for me. Maisie, if there’s a next life for us, I promise that I’ll love you with all my heart. I won’t ever… let you down anymore.”
I had no idea how I got out of there after that. By the time I regained consciousness, I was already moved to a safe area.
Victor was treating my wounds.
“Where is he? Has he woken up?” My voice was rough. There was a glazed look in my eyes.
Those hands that were putting a bandage on me stopped moving for a few seconds. Victor raised his head. His eyes looked dull.
I heard him saying, “Maisie, please accept my deepest condolences.”
Condolences? What did he mean by his deepest condolences?
I stared at Victor with a confused look in my eyes.
“Maisie, Sean wouldn’t want to see you wallow in grief because of him. He’ll be watching you from above. You need to stay strong and cheer up.”
I felt this hollow feeling at the center of my chest at that moment. It was as though someone had branded Sean’s name over my heart with a piece of hot metal.
After our operation in Agora had ended, I followed the medical team and traveled to several other places. Three years later, I was given some days off. I finally returned to my home country.

She came hurrying toward me the second she saw me. ‘Where’s Sean? Where is he?”
Evelyn appeared quite unhinged. She kept asking me over and over again where Sean was.
I remained silent.
Suddenly, she started screaming hysterically, “Where’s Sean? Where is he?”
“He’s dead.”
I had a calm expression on my face.
Evelyn fell silent almost instantly.
She tilted her head. There was a blank look in her eyes. “He’s dead?”
She laughed hysterically the next instant. “He’s dead. Dead!”
I watched as Evelyn ran away. I had no idea what had happened to her during the past few years, nor was
I interested to find out the details. I still had an aversion to her.

Yet, I never thought that Evelyn would take her own life after learning about Sean’s death. She jumped off the building, where he and I used to live, and died on the spot.
Three days later, I received a notice to regroup with my team.
I visited Sean one last time. This time, I was bidding him farewell for good.
