Chapter 133 Longing To See You

Upon reaching the hospital, the doctor conducted a thorough examination and inquired about Liam’s recent health. After assessing the situation, he said, “It’s likely a case of seasonal flu. Once the fever subsides, there shouldn’t be any serious issues.”
Upon hearing that, Olivia felt the worry in her heart gradually returned to its original state.
“First, administer an injection to bring down the fever, then kept him in the hospital for observation. Only once the fever had completely subsided will he be allowed to return home.” Olivia turned to Benjamin and said, “You go handle the hospital admission procedures.”
“Understood.” Benjamin acknowledged before departing.
After receiving her injection, Olivia cradled Liam as they returned to the ward.
She gently placed Liam on the ward, pulling the blanket over to cover him, her gaze tenderly falling on the little one’s face.
Perhaps the acetaminophen injection had taken effect, as delicate beads of sweat started to appear on the boy’s forehead.
Olivia pulled out a few tissues and gently wiped them, then she leaned over and softly kissed the little one’s forehead. “Sleep well. I’m here with you.”
Benjamin walked into the hospital room and saw Olivia sitting by the bed. He approached her and gently said, “Olivia, you should rest. I’ll stay with Liam.”
Olivia gently shook her head. “No need. I haven’t been able to spend quality time with Liam lately. Let me stay with him.”
When she spoke like that, all Benjamin could respond was, “Just call me if you need anything. I’ll be outside.”
“All right.”
In the middle of the night, Liam woke up.
Upon seeing him open his eyes, Olivia was filled with joy and rushed over. “Liam.”
Staring at her, Liam slowly spoke. “Mommy, I’m thirsty.”
Due to his fever, his voice sounded somewhat hoarse.
Olivia quickly poured a glass of water, then sat on the edge of the bed, helping him sit up. She brought the glass to his lips, “Here, take your time and drink.”
The little one was genuinely parched, gulping down more than half a glass of water in one breath.
“Keep sleeping. I’m here with you,” Olivia gently wiped his mouth, speaking softly.
His fever had subsided somewhat, but it hadn’t completely gone away.
Olivia held him as they laid down, her palm gently patting his back.
Liam nestled in her arms, eyes wide open and round, showing no signs of sleepiness at all.
“What’s wrong?” Olivia lowered her gaze to look at him.
“Mommy.” He hesitated before cautiously continuing, “I want to see Daddy. Can we invite Daddy over?”
Have Nathan come over? It’s rather inappropriate at this late hour: Olivia furrowed her brows, beginning to hesitate.
When she didn’t respond, the sparkle in his eyes gradually faded. “If you aren’t happy, then I won’t meet Daddy anymore… Having you is enough for me, Mommy,” he said.
Liam nestled gently in her arms, speaking in a well–behaved manner.
Olivia gently patted his back, noticing the corners of his eyes turning red. That sight softened her heart to a complete mess. He always thought of my own feelings first. Would it be too petty of me if I didn’t agree?

“I… I’ll call your father,” she had agreed.

Liam’s eyes lit up momentarily, but he quickly shook his head. “Thanks, Mommy, but… I don’t want you to be unhappy, nor do I want to force you.”
Olivia chuckled, playfully ruffling his hair. “Don’t worry, sweetheart. I’m going to make a call. Be a good boy now.”
She walked over to her bed with her phone in hand, scrolled through her contacts to find Nathan’s number, and dialed it.
During the period she was waiting for the call to connect, she felt an inexplicable sense of nervousness.
After quite a while, the call was finally answered. “What’s up?”
He must have been asleep, his voice even lower than it usually was. A shiver of regret coursed through Olivia’s heart, and her hand hanging by her side involuntarily tightened.
She spoke slowly. “I’m sorry. I didn’t mean to wake you. Liam is in the hospital with a fever. He wants to see you.”
After speaking, she turned her gaze to Liam on the bed and asked, “Is that okay?”
“I’m on my way now,” answered Nathan..
The call was ended, and Olivia looked down at her darkened phone screen, feeling an indescribable sensation in her heart.
Roughly half an hour later, Nathan, with his tall and slender figure, hurried into the ward.
“Dad!” Liam called out joyfully upon seeing him.
Nathan quickly walked over, reaching out to touch his forehead, his handsome brows furrowed tightly.
“Has the fever not subsided yet?” He looked up at Olivia.
The latter nodded. “He’s taken an acetaminophen injection. It’s started to go down a bit.”
“Daddy, I want a hug,” Liam stretched out his arms.
Nathan lifted Liam up, and the boy comfortably rested his head on his shoulder, whispering into his ear. “This is warmer than Mommy’s embrace.”
Upon hearing it, Olivia couldn’t help but chuckle. He’s abandoning me now that he has his daddy?
