Listening to her rambling on, Nathan felt his mood inexplicably improve a little.
He found solace in the fact that when William fell ill, the latter turned to him, not to King.
Nathan looked at her, a faint glimmer in his eyes, and asked tentatively, “While abroad, have you been taking care of him alone?”
Upon hearing her mention the past, he suddenly found himself yearning to know how she had spent those past five years.
Olivia hadn’t expected him to ask such a question, and for a moment, she was caught off guard.
She remained silent for quite some time before she finally responded truthfully, “Initially, yes.”
Her response caused Nathan to raise an eyebrow.
She continued, “Back then, I went to an unfamiliar place and knew no one there. I had to rely on myself for everything.”
Memories of those challenging times suddenly flooded Olivia’s mind. She took a deep breath before continuing, “Fortunately, as I got to know more people, there were those who helped me take care of Liam.”
If she hadn’t met Joker or King, Olivia doubted he and William would still be alive at that moment.
Nathan sensed a noticeable shift in her demeanor as she brought up the past. A flicker of an indecipherable emotion crossed the depths of his eyes, and he moved his lips slightly.
He felt the urge to ask where she had been and why she had not used the card he had given her.
At that time, the card had been loaded with ten million, enough for her to live comfortably abroad. However, to Nathan’s surprise, she didn’t even use a single cent on the card, not even to purchase the plane tickets to fly abroad.
However, he was unable to ask aloud as the words became stuck in his throat.
He couldn’t fathom how she managed to survive in an unfamiliar place with no support, especially without money and with a child to take care of
Nathan found himself recalling that rainy night five years ago, and a wave of frustration stirred within him. As he looked at her, his gaze held a hint of distress that he himself was unaware of.
He thought Olivia would continue speaking, but she didn’t.
Had he not asked so abruptly, Olivia would not have had the slightest inclination to dredge up memories from the past.
After all, the hardships of the past were already behind her. One should keep moving forward, so why dwell on memories?
Consequently, she changed the topic, saying, “In a couple of days, once things settle down, I’d like to visit the tech park to test the system and see if there are any areas that need improvement.”
Although she had confidence in the system she had created, she desired to make it even more perfect.
She abruptly brought up official business, catching Nathan off guard. However, he quickly returned to his senses and nodded, “Sure. Let me know when you want to go.”
“Okay.” With him around, she could get a clearer picture of the system’s shortcomings.
Olivia noticed Nathan had been holding William the whole time, so she walked over, intending to take William into her arms.
Unexpectedly, Nathan evaded her outstretched hand.
“Let him sleep on the bed. His fever won’t subside so quickly,” Olivia said. “Holding him for too long will make your arms
sore.”
“It’s okay. I can sleep even if I hold him like this,” Nathan refused her suggestion.

“Take a rest,” he suggested. From the moment Olivia entered the ward, Nathan had noticed the fatigue etched all over her face.
If William hadn’t insisted Nathan come over, Olivia would’ve had to spend the whole night taking care of their son alone.
“Okay. Call me if you need anything.” Even though Olivia didn’t want to get overly involved with Nathan, she had to admit that his presence made things somewhat easier for her and also brought her significant relief.
She walked over to the couch and sat down, leaning back and closing her eyes, hoping to steal a brief nap.
