As soon as James returned to the company, he immediately reported the situation to Emily.
“Mrs. Carter, Olivia was about to sign the contract when Mr. Carter appeared out of nowhere” James reported, nervously wiping his sweat off.
“What?” Upon hearing this, Emily abruptly stood up, her expression turning gloomy
“Mr. Carter tore up all the documents,” James said as he showed her the shredded papers
Emily felt her vision go dark for a moment. She raised her hand to rub her forehead, her whole body uncomfortably seething with anger.
Pointing at his nose, she scolded James, “Why are you so useless? If you can’t even handle such a minor task, then you might as well just get lost!”
James hung his head low, too frightened to even dare to breathe,
In truth, he was in a tough spot. He couldn’t afford to offend both Nathan and Emily.
Emily was so furious she could have crushed her teeth from how hard she was clenching them. I didn’t expect Nathan to head over so quickly! If only he had gotten there a little later!
At that moment, Nathan pushed the door open and walked in. He casually glanced at James, his voice deep as he commanded, “You there, leave us.”
Upon hearing this, James felt as if he’d been pardoned. Without uttering another word, he hastily left the room, making sure to gently close the door behind him.
In the office, only Nathan and Emily remained.
“Mom,” Nathan called out to her.
“Don’t call me that if you don’t even acknowledge me as your mother!” Emily exclaimed sternly.
Nathan’s brow furrowed slightly.
She took a deep breath before speaking, “Listen, Nathan. There’s no need for us to discuss this today because there’s no room for negotiation. The collaboration with Horizon Ventures must be terminated.”
Emily’s stance was resolute, leaving no room for negotiation.
Nathan’s handsome face was taut, his gaze heavily fixed on her as he said, “Mom, you’re ruining the reputation of Carter Group.”
“Reputation?” Emily laughed bitterly in her anger, her words dripping with sarcasm as she asked, “Do you even care about your reputation anymore? Is there anything in your mind besides that despicable Olivia?”
Whenever she thought about him having any kind of connection with Olivia, it tore her up inside.
“I am in charge of the company’s projects. You should know how important the tech park project is,” Nathan said coldly. “Horizon Ventures‘ system is renowned worldwide. Even if Olivia is not managing Horizon Ventures today, Carter Group would still choose to work with Horizon Ventures.”
Emily didn’t believe his explanation, not for a second.
She let out a cold chuckle and replied, “There are numerous renowned companies around the world, even the worst among them isn’t that bad. But why do you insist on using Olivia’s company’s system?”
As she continued speaking, Emily’s emotions surged with intensity. She was so infuriated that her chest heaved dramatically.
Fearing she would faint from anger, Nathan didn’t want to argue with her anymore.

And so, she gritted her teeth, asking, “Do you have to collaborate with Olivia? If that’s the case, I can compromise, but you have to set a wedding date. Otherwise, there’s no room for discussion.”
It was clear that Emily was deliberately making things difficult for Olivia, forcing her son to make a choice between the two.
Nathan hadn’t anticipated that she would force him to make such a decision. His expression turned extremely unpleasant instantly.
He swallowed his displeasure, his tone icy as he asked, “So, you’re just that eager to have a daughter–in–law?”
Emily nodded, not denying it at all. “That’s right; I do want a daughter–in–law.”
“Fine. I’ll satisfy you, then.” Nathan replied with a sneer.
