Thinking her son had given in, Emily’s face broke into a surprised and delighted smile. “Nathan, are you serious?”
“I still regard you as my mother, so of course I’m telling the truth,” Nathan said with an indifferent tone, as if the matter had nothing to do with him.
Upon receiving a definitive answer, Emily was overjoyed. “Good boy!”
A hint of mockery flashed in his dark eyes, and Nathan said coldly, “I’m heading back to the office first.”
Once back at the office, Nathan summoned Ethan and asked, “Do we have a social engagement tonight?”
Ethan nodded. “Yes, Mr. Yates invited you for drinks tonight. However, I’ve already declined him on your behalf.”
Ethan knew that his boss typically avoided such events, hence he would always decline the invitations on his behalf.
Nathan’s eyes narrowed slightly, a cold smirk tugged at the corner of his mouth as he said, “No need; I can head over tonight.”
Thinking he must have misheard, Ethan’s eyes went wide in astonishment. “Are you sure?” he asked, his face a picture of surprise.
Nathan simply gave him a nonchalant nod without uttering another word.
Ethan, on the other hand, furrowed his brows. Based on my understanding of Mr. Carter, there must be a reason for this decision.
That night, in the Diamond Room of Golden Cascade Club, several pairs of men and women were seated on the L–shaped couch.
At times, the men engaged in discussions about business matters, and at other times, they teased the women by their side. The drinks in their glasses shimmered in the light as they moved.
Nathan sat at the farthest edge, his back ramrod straight, his expression indifferent. An aura of aloofness radiated from him, warding off any attempts at approach.
The escort, whom Stephen had arranged to accompany him, attempted to chat with him. However, he completely ignored her, acting as if she didn’t even exist.
The escort, having faced a setback, cast a pleading glance toward Stephen for assistance.
With a hearty laugh, Stephen said, “Mr. Carter, come, let’s have a drink.”
Nathan tilted his head slightly.
When he locked eyes with Nathan’s icy gaze, the smile on Stephen’s face froze for a few seconds. Then, as if compelled by some unseen force, he downed the drink in his hand in one go and said, “Please feel free to do as you wish, Mr. Carter.”
Originally, he was overjoyed when he found out that Nathan would be coming over in the evening. However, he never expected the situation to turn out like this.
Suddenly, Nathan stood up.
The previously lively atmosphere instantly quieted down, with all eyes turning toward him.
He turned around, reaching over to pick up his coat from the couch. With his assistant in tow, he confidently strode away, leaving everyone behind in a state of bewilderment.
It seemed as if he had stayed for less than half an hour.
The following morning, Financial News exposed the scandal involving Nathan of Carter Group, causing quite a stir.
In the accompanying picture, Nathan was seen leaning toward the woman seated on the couch, an image that exuded an exceptional sense of intimacy.
Upon seeing the news, Nathan didn’t react with anger. Instead, he simply picked up the remote and turned off the television.

Actually, the picture in the news was taken by him, and it was even a task from Nathan last night.

At that moment, Ethan’s phone rang. It was Stephen from the night before.
He picked up the phone, and from the other end, Stephen said anxiously, “We didn’t take those pictures, Mr. Thompson.”
Ethan almost couldn’t help but laugh.
In reality, it was clear that the picture was taken from someone within the private room. However, those people from last night wouldn’t have dared to take it.

Nathan glanced over at him, prompting him to quickly clear his throat. He then addressed Stephen on the phone, saying, “Got it.”

“Don’t worry, Mr. Carter didn’t say anything,” Ethan reassured him before hanging up the phone.
Meanwhile, Emma was watching the news at home as well. She was utterly taken aback, finding it completely absurd.
Nathan had always been a man of restraint, so it was completely unlike him to do such a thing.
Emily was just as shocked as her was. She stared at the picture graph on the television. If she hadn’t recognized her son at first glance, she would have thought the person in the picture was someone else.
She knew her son better than anyone else.
Even if pigs could fly, he would never casually get close to a woman.
She turned to her assistant and ordered, “Find out which media outlet had the audacity to tarnish my son’s reputation like this.”
“Understood.” The assistant acknowledged promptly before rushing off.
