Chapter 163 He Did Not Want To Force Her
At home, Emily watched as the news spiraled out of control, feeling utterly bewildered.
She had been overjoyed to hear about her son’s marriage to Emma.
But at this moment, she simply couldn’t accept the news.
She made a phone call to Nathan.

As soon as he picked up, she got straight to the point and asked, “Nate, what’s really going on? A few days ago, the news of you dating another woman could be dismissed as false. But what about this time? You’ve invited so many socialites all at once. Why don’t I remember you being this thoughtful?”
As she knew her son too well, she felt that his unusual behavior this time must indicate that something was
amiss.
Nathan chuckled, “Haven’t you always been eager to find yourself a daughter–in–law? This time, I’ve invited numerous socialites, many of whom come from families no less prestigious than the Patel family.”
Emily’s brows furrowed deeply in annoyance. “Are you purposely trying to upset me?”
He knows full well that I have taken a liking to Emma as a potential daughter–in–law and is wholeheartedly considering an alliance with the Patel family, yet he dares to act this way!
“Mom, this time you can take the opportunity to choose carefully. Perhaps you might find someone you’re satisfied with.”
Emily was not oblivious to the mockery laced within his words, which immediately left her fuming. “Nate, must you really do this?”
“I simply don’t like Emma! Perhaps I’ll like the others!”
Nathan was quite straightforward. He didn’t fancy Emma and wanted his mother to give up on the idea as soon as possible.
“I think you just enjoy pissing me off!” Emily was so infuriated by him that her whole body was trembling.
Nathan was unfazed. “I’m busy. I’m hanging up now.”
Then, the call was ended.
Emily tossed her phone onto the couch with a force that betrayed her anger, her face turning red.
Ever since Olivia returned to the country, he has been disregarding me!
She gritted her teeth in resentment. Olivia’s parents caused the death of my husband, and now she’s even plotting against my son.
There’s no way I’m letting her do that!
After the phone call, Nathan’s spirits plummeted drastically, immediately draining him of all enthusiasm
for work.
He glanced at the time, realizing he would be off work in another hour.

Since he wasn’t in the mood to work, he thought he might as well go pick up Liam from kindergarten.
And so, he picked up his suit jacket and rose from his seat, leaving the office.
When Ethan saw Nathan skipping work again, his emotions instantly became incredibly complex.
Nathan used to be a workaholic, but now he had become the first to leave the office.
Nathan parked his car at the entrance of the kindergarten, and as soon as he got out, he saw Olivia leading Lian out.
When Olivia saw him, she was quite surprised. “What are you doing here?”
“I was on my way home from work, so I thought I’d drop by and check on Liam,” replied Nathan nonchalantly.
That day, Olivia was dressed in a soft yellow dress, which accentuated her fair complexion even more. Her long, black hair was casually gathered behind her, with loose strands naturally falling by her cheeks. Overall, she looked exceptionally gentle and beautiful.
Nathan’s eyes darkened.
Liam let go of Olivia’s hand, ran over to him, and held his hand. Looking up at him, he asked, “Daddy, would you like to come over to our place for a visit?”
Nathan’s eyebrows quirked up, and he turned his gaze to Olivia.
Of course he wanted to visit, but he didn’t know if Olivia would agree.
Olivia caught his gaze and quickly averted her eyes, scolding softly, “Liam, stop fooling around. Your daddy is too busy to come over to our place.”
She couldn’t just say she didn’t welcome Nathan’s visit. She could only express it in such a subtle manner, trusting that Nathan would be able to understand the refusal hidden in her words.
The corners of Nathan’s mouth lifted in an almost imperceptible smile. Though he felt a twinge of disappointment in his heart, he didn’t want to force her.
Liam was not pleased. He ran over and grasped Olivia’s hand, pleading pitifully, “Mommy, please say yes. You and Daddy rarely come to pick me up together. I’m really happy. If you don’t agree, I’ll be upset all night.”
He sounded as if he was on the verge of tears.
