“The plane’s about to take off,” Nathan reminded his mother calmly.
He was implying he would never change seats.
Emily’s fury ignited instantly, and she redirected her ire toward Olivia, shooting her a resentful glare. “Enough is enough! Why can’t you just leave us alone? Since returning to the country, you’ve been popping up in front of Nate time and time again. Do you honestly believe these tactics will work?”
Her voice, amplified by the confined cabin space, drew the attention of both passengers and flight attendants alike.
Olivia pressed her hand against her forehead. Today’s just not my day, huh?
She then lifted her gaze to meet Emily’s, her expression devoid of emotion. With a scoff, she replied, “Mrs. Carter, I’m simply minding my own business here. How could I possibly have upset you?”
Her response only fanned the flames of Emily’s rage. “So, now you’re playing the victim, are you?” she snapped, her tone dripping with contempt. “Are you ashamed because I hit the nail on the head?”
“Hah!” A derisive chuckle escaped Olivia’s lips, laden with sarcasm.
Her gaze toward Emily turned icy. “Mrs. Carter, your imagination seems to be running wild.”
Taking a deep breath to steady herself, Olivia continued, “If my presence bothers you, do us both a favor and keep your distance. If you find me so bothersome, then spare us both by not crossing my path!”
“You!” Emily was left speechless, her indignation rendering her momentarily unable to form a coherent

“Furthermore…” Olivia narrowed her eyes, her tone laced with disdain. “Since when do you have the authority to tell me off? Do you still see me as your servant?”
Emily clutched her chest, which ached from fury.
“Mrs. Carter, are you feeling all right?” Emma soothingly patted Emily’s back, attempting to calm her
nerves.
Then, Emma turned her attention to Olivia, rebuking, “You’re crossing a line! The Carter family has supported you for years.”
“You have no right to intervene,” Olivia retorted, casting a defiant glance at the man beside her. “Furthermore, I wasn’t dependent on your family; it was Nathan who supported me. What does that have to do with you?”
Nathan turned his head, catching a glimpse of her subtly raised chin. In her aloof expression, there lingered a hint of proud defiance.
It was almost as if relying on him was a matter of course for her.
Unnoticed by anyone else, a fleeting smile danced in Nathan’s eyes.
Emma was at a loss for words, her complexion fluctuating between pale and flushed. Seeing Nathan’s attention focused on that despicable woman, her expression darkened further.

Switching places with Benjamin seemed like the simplest solution to silence them.
However, as she made to stand up, her wrist was abruptly seized in a firm grip.
Startled, she turned her gaze to find Nathan holding onto her wrist.
She looked at him in puzzlement.
What does he want? Emily and Emma are already causing me enough trouble as it is.
The next moment, she found herself forcefully pulled back into her seat. Nathan’s voice, firm and unwavering, echoed in her ear, leaving no room for argument. “Sit down. There’s no need for you to switch places with anyone.”
Turning to face his mother and Emma, Nathan commanded, “Sit down. Don’t disturb others!”
A palpable sense of authority radiated from him, causing Olivia to purse her lips in silence.
Emily, taken aback by her son’s unexpected defiance, seethed with anger, her complexion paling.
The gaze of surrounding passengers and even the flight attendants bore down on them.
Unable to afford the humiliation of losing face, Emily reluctantly complied, swallowing her fury and taking her seat.
After settling into her seat, Emma cast a frustrated glance backward.
The jealousy bubbling within her threatened to overflow. After all these years, nothing had changed. Nathan would still defend Olivia, just as he always had.
