Nathan held Liam’s soft, tender body in his arms. The boy was very light. Nathan felt that Liam’s delicate face was very precious at that moment. His entire demeanor suddenly shifted, and his eyes were filled with blazing fury. He couldn’t help but question Ethan, “What did you do? Why didn’t you take good care of the child?”

Ethan’s legs went weak, trembling as he explained how he had been deceived. “As soon as I realized something was amiss, I rushed back, only to find William restrained and made to stand under the sun… Mrs. Carter was watching from the hall…”

Nathan’s expression turned cold as he glanced icily at Emily in the house. However, he didn’t have time to blame anyone. He held the boy in his arms securely and quickly walked towards the car. “Let’s go to the hospital!”

Ethan followed and got into the driver’s seat. He also turned on the air conditioning, causing the temperature inside the car to drop sharply. Nathan’s gaze fell on the child in his arms, a worried expression flickering in his eyes. On the way to the hospital, he contacted Olivia. As soon as the call connected, he got straight to the point. “Does Liam have any history of drug allergies?”

Olivia was taken aback. “No.” She asked urgently, “What happened? Is Liam okay?”

“I can’t explain over the phone. Come to Emberfall Hospital,” Nathan quickly said.

Olivia’s expression turned cold. She was currently searching for a new office space with Benjamin for their company when she received news of her child’s condition. She rushed to the hospital and saw Ethan waiting for her at the entrance when she arrived. The two hurried to the emergency room, where the doctor examined Liam.

Olivia’s legs almost went weak. She dashed forward. “Liam!” The child lay on the hospital bed, pale–faced and unconscious. “What’s going on? What happened? How did Liam end up like this?” Olivia asked anxiously.

The doctor had just examined Liam. He removed the stethoscope and frowned. “The child suffered heatstroke after being exposed to the sun! Why are you so oblivious as parents? Children have delicate skin, and the sun is blazing now. How could you allow the child to be exposed to the sun like that?”

Nathan pursed his lips tightly, guilt flashing in his eyes. Olivia couldn’t help but get angry upon hearing this. She glared at Nathan and said, “What does the doctor mean? How did the child get heatstroke from

being in the sun? He was fine when I left him. How did he end up like this after being with you for less than

a day? Nathan Carter! Regardless if the child is yours, he’s my son. Are you trying to retaliate by making him stand in the sun like this?” Nathan remained silent. The child fell sick under his care, so he was responsible.

Ethan hurriedly explained, “Ms. Olivia, this is my fault. I didn’t take good care of William. Mr. Carter was busy then but rushed back immediately when he found out William was unwell. If you want to blame someone, blame me!” He felt very guilty seeing William in pain. If only I’d noticed something amiss earlier!

Olivia had a nasty expression. She didn’t want to hear this explanation at all. She felt a gut–wrenching pain when she saw how her son lay in bed in discomfort. But, of course, Nathan had long detested her. How can he possibly treat her son well?

“Mr. Carter, I don’t think you need to do the DNA test! Please leave and never approach Liam again in the future. He can’t afford to be tormented in this manner,” she said icily without glancing at Nathan or Ethan. “Benjamin, see them out!” Benjamin stood by the door and said coldly, “Mr. Carter, please leave!”
