Lost in thought, Nathan continued to gaze in the direction where Olivia’s car had disappeared. His preoccupation did not go unnoticed by Emma, who felt a pang of discomfort in her heart.

Suppressing her feelings, she managed to muster a thin smile and gently reminded him, “Nate, it’s time to get in the car.”
Nathan was jolted back to reality by Emily’s voice. Quickly, he averted his gaze and moved to get into the
car.
Emily’s scoff pierced the air, her words dripping with disdain. “Returning from five years abroad, and suddenly she’s acting like she’s some kind of heiress, hiring someone to put on a show?”
Emily found it irritating to see that man treat Olivia with respect, thinking Olivia was just putting on airs.
Nathan paused in his tracks, turning to shoot his mother an icy glare. “Could you shut up?”
His tone betrayed his mounting irritation, a testament to the frustration he had been bottling up throughout the encounter. His patience had been stretched thin, and if Emily weren’t his mother, he would’ve lashed out already.
He climbed into the car ahead, closing the door with a forceful thud that echoed his simmering frustration.
Emily’s face contorted with shock and indignation. She had not expected her son to treat her like that. Filled with rage, she trembled uncontrollably.

She gritted her teeth, her gaze frighteningly gloomy.
After leaving the airport, Olivia and her team made a beeline for the Dark Syndicate’s headquarters in Attlewich, known as the Golden Charm Club.
They parked their vehicle opposite the club, right at the entrance of a nearby cafe.
They swiftly entered the cafe, choosing seats by the window which afforded them a clear view of the club’s activities.
After ordering coffee, Olivia turned her attention to the man in black seated across from her. She wasted no time in getting to the point. “King Spades, what have you uncovered?”
The man in black, identified by his code name “King Spades” within Mystical Alcazar, was a former special forces soldier with unparalleled reconnaissance abilities.
“The club serves as an important base for the Dark Syndicate,” he revealed in a hushed tone. “Though it may seem like an innocuous establishment from the outside, it actually has at least three levels underground.”
Olivia’s eyebrows shot up in surprise. “Three underground levels?” she echoed incredulously.
She glanced across the street at the unassuming façade of the club, unable to discern its intricate subterranean layout from the surface.

Resuming in a subdued tone, he divulged further, “The club’s operations are overseen by a man named Lionel–a highly competent individual, by all accounts.”
Olivia scoffed. “Indeed. If Lionel wasn’t capable, he wouldn’t have been able to lay a finger on Shadow.”
The mention of Shadow’s injury made Olivia’s expression turn grave. Her brows knit together in a tight frown. One thought nagged at her: How could a second–rate organization like the Dark Syndicate have obtained intel on Shadow’s whereabouts?
After all, Mystical Alcazar’s influence abroad was unmatched. Moreover, the geographical distance between the two factions placed them oceans apart, and they had nothing to do with each other. Is the Dark Syndicate seeking their own demise? How could they have the audacity to cross Mystical Alcazar?
There was a nagging feeling that there was more to the situation than met the eye. Turning her gaze to King Spades, she inquired, “Is there any information you’ve been holding back?”
King Spades nodded gravely. “Indeed. I’ve delved into the matter, and it appears that the Dark Syndicate has established dealings overseas. Unfortunately, they misidentified Shadow as the enemy and launched an attack. Initially, they couldn’t best Shadow either, but…”
He paused, the weight of his words hanging in the air, before resuming, “Things were chaotic, and a mole was planted within our ranks, facilitating the assault on Shadow without difficulty.”
